spinning reel collectors. Ben has decided to make his list available
to all the readers of OFS in the future. Since these type of reels are
probably the most collected today, we are happy to publish this
specialty list here.

Oct. 2004 report, Extremely rare ABU 444 tournament reel. the reel was
an early version Gray color. it should be noted that there were a few
pieces made of what I call Experimental reels c1957/58 with the GRAY
color.

SO WHO IS NUMBER 1 ABU, MITCHELL OR THOSE ITALIAN SPINNING REELS
????
A new record is set for an ABU Cardinal
an ABU cardinal 66 was listed on E-Bay's cousin
Tradera.com of Sweden. The seller listed this as an unmarked cardinal
that was so early that it had not been named cardinal 66 yet by ABU.
The reel was a bright Red color with a black cup and a black
replacement drag knob and was in minty condition. although I have my
suspicions of unmarked reels this could have been the "REEL" Deal ???
there were 19 bids with a high bid of 24,000 SEK or approx. $3450.00
USD. the high bid did not meet the reserve. it is my understanding
that the reserve was at 25,000 SEK and I do not know if the reel has
been sold at that price yet?

a Cardinal 33CDL brought a lot of attention.
the reel was new with a wood box. Funny thing was that the seller
had read the S/N up-side down. S/N 96900 was S/N 00696. which by the
way is easy to do. the reel had a buy-now of $1250.000. the high bid
was at $600.00 that did not reach the reserve. the seller has
re-listed the reel with a buy now of $800.00 |

Sure wish sellers knew the difference between fly
reels, baitcasting reels and spinning reels! ! ! Guess if it spins
it's a spinning reel.

showed up this month.

WAS THERE REALLY A NEW RECORD PRICE SET FOR AN
ABU CARDINAL?
In my February 2005 spin-reel report I had stated
that a new record was set for an Abu Cardinal. The reel was listed on
E-Bays cousin Tradera.com it was listed by the seller as an extremely
rare proto-type cardinal 66 that was so early that Abu had not named
the reel model 66 yet. The reel is bright red in color and in minty
condition. The high bid at that time was 24,000SEK or approx.
$3450.00USD. It did not meet the reserve of 25,000SEK
As I stated I have my suspicions of unmarked
reels. this same reel has been re-listed a couple times this month
with a starting price of 9,999.00SEK or approx. $1285.00 USD. It is my
understanding that to date there have been no bids on this reel.
Guess you can be the Judge on this one!!!

unusual Large Brass Proto-type? fixed spool reel that was 8-1/2” long
with a full bail. this reel was unmarked in exc. condition but had a
weak bail spring sold @$453.13. This is the reel shown to the right.
Listed as a rare vintage proto-type? reel may
have been Illingworth (Yeah Right) was a small Alum. reel with mpu
with a lot of paint wear sold @$238.56
Listed as a very rare 1933 Art Deco reel produced
from 1933 to 1945 was an Airex Bache-Brown first version Spinster
Circa 1949. in exc. condition and sold for$92.29
