eBay Report Archives - April 2003
There seemed to be quite a few bargains this month, but as
always there were lots of mouse clickings for rare items.
Reels:
There seemed to be quite a few unusual salt water reels
this month. Included were an H.O. Lenz reel from Seattle, with plastic
side plates in VG condition which drew
$305.00. Also a British
Columbia Peetz Y strap wooden reel - 6.5" with recorder and an extended
handle reached $322.99. It had been refinished to VG. A Meisselbach Imbrie
Surf Reel, with the dial free spool in VG was bid to $510. A George Garey
Big Game Sailfish reel, made of aluminum and in VG condition reached
$2275. It is shown in the photo to the right. An Abercrombie & Fitch Tuna
& Tarpon reel, made of hard rubber and German silver, 500 yards, and in VG
condition reached $450. And a Hendryx Tarpon and Tuna reel with Blackburn
drag and also VG sold for $457.50.
Spinning reels of interest included a pair of Penn green
Spinfishers that were new in
the box with papers, etc.
A #710 sold for $239.40, and a #716 reached $510. With the sale of Penn,
this is probably just a start. An early Dam Quick #SW68 surprised the
seller when it topped out at $632. It was in Good condition. And shown to
the left is a British Bartleets wood and brass sidecast spinning reel.
This reel is similar to the Malloch reel. It sold for $210.05.
Some interesting casting reels sold in March included a
Shakespeare Vom Hofe Patent reel. This 1910 reel was made of Hard rubber
and nickel plated brass. It was in VG condition and sold for $396. An E.E.
Eaton Kentucky style reel in Good condition and #3 size reached $500. A
Talbot Star in VG sold for $346, a Blue Langley Streamlight #310A in VG
got 18 bids before selling for $69.60, and a Heddon #40 that was listed as
brass (it was tarnished German silver) and broken because it had no level
wind (it never did) sold for $528.88.
A classic
Edward vom Hofe #4 Trout Reel in VG was snatched up at a Buy It Now price
of $2100. It is shown here. A Conroy German silver wide spool in VG
reached $1053.78. A Loomis & Plumb brass automatic fly reel in G-VG sold
for $1161. A Meisselbach Expert with Pin Drag in VG-EX reached $282.77,
and a rare Meisselbach Amateur #12 in VG sold for $455.77. A Julius vom
Hofe 4/0 salmon size fly reel of hard rubber and nickel plated brass sold
for $610.
Miscellaneous:
Some paper items brought emails from several eBay readers.
Among them was a
single
sheet broadside for a Fowler Gem fly reel, dated 1878 that sold for $375
on Buy It Now, and a Chapman lure mailing label with a 2 cent stamp on it.
This VG piece of ephemera reached $843 after 15 bids. It is pictured to
the left.
An 1897 Reuben Woods Sons catalog with 136 pages and in VG
condition sold for $113.50, and seemed a bargain. A Heddon 1931 catalog
with dealer supplement and in VG condition sold for $504.
UMCO tackle boxes were back with a vengeance. An Orange
20" one with 84 compartments and in Mint sold for $395; a blue 2080U one
with 28 compartments reached $202.50, and a brown 4500U topped out at
$252.50. A Fuji toy outboard motor that was NIB sold for $800 - now that's
a Wowser! A Falls City Minnow bucket with VG+ exterior, and an EX interior
reached $238.82 proving the value of condition. And finally a
Horrocks-Ibbotson standup counter display in EX condition sold for only
$67.00. What a steal.
Rods:
A Master Kaster pump rod and reel combination that was
missing the rod received 8 bids but reached $351.99. Action Rods are still
hot as a 5' version in the canvas bag with White/Red handle sold for
$182.50. However that was dwarfed by a Phillipson Swamp Fox fiberglass rod
that was assembled from a blank by some rod maker and was in mint
condition - it reached new heights when it sold for $1650. a Scott
Fiberglass fly rod, #F703/3, 7', 3/1, for a 3 weight line and EX reached
$301.
Bamboo rods of interest were a Hoagie Carmichael 8 footer,
#C-8-2, in mint condition that topped out at $5322.69, and a Winston 8.5',
2/2 from the 1980 California era and in EX which sold for $1280.
Lures:
There
were lots of nice Creek Chub baits in boxes offered this month. Heading
the list was a Husky Musky #639 in Bumble Bee. The lure was mint and the
box VG. It sold for $3125.86, and is shown to the right. Also sold was a
NIB #2719 Jointed Pikie in Frog which sold for $620; A Baby Jigger in Frog
that was VG-EX in box with papers for $461.99; A Goldfish Injured Minnow
#1506 that was EX/B & papers for $1294; A Husky Pikie #2335L EX/B at $598;
and a Pop N Dunk in Bumble Bee EX/B for $600. A CCBC Underwater Minnow in
Red Scale and EX brought $2851, and a TE 700 Pikie in a weird
white/reverse black stripes and pink sides sold for $999.
Heddon lures of interest were two Heddon Big Hedd spooks -
one Chartreuse and one brown, which brought $1009.99 in EX. Another
plastic, a Punkinseed in Chartreuse
coachdog and EX sold for
$560. A Crazy Crawler in luminous color and EX in the box with papers sold
for $1326.01 (and is shown to the left), and a Heddon 150, EX in a down
leaping bass box and green crackleback sold for $800. A Walton Feathertail
#42 that was EX in box only sold for $344. It was W/Red back. A nice
Heddon fly rod bait sold was a Wilder Dilg feathered minnow that was mint
in box with papers for $760.
A Sambo Lure, new in the box, received 36 bids and sold
for $127.50. A rare Pfeiffer Glass Minnow Tube in the box with papers in
the rare trout size and in EX condition topped out at $2739.98. A K&K
Animated Minnow in VG+ sold for $539.99; a blue Rhodes 2 belly weight
minnow in EX reached $638; a Charmer Minnow, gold with green stripe and VG
condition brought $522.22. A Couple of Christensen wooden frogs in VG
condition sold for $610 and $530. A Pflueger 4 Brothers Neverfail Minnow
in the box, all in VG condition reached $391. It was white with a black
back. A Shakespeare wooden Revolution that was only in fair condition sold
for $462.57. And finally, a Chapman #1 Mascot Bait in VG sold for $314.99,
and a Chapman that I don't know the name of but in Good condition sold for
$2025.
A couple of interesting lure boxes only sold. A Hungry
Jack box with papers and VG sold for $460.55, and a Paw Paw with no lure
number and VG brought $178.30.
