The huge Lang's Auction this month will be reported in a separate
article, thus items from that auction are not included in this report.
But there was some nice stuff anyway....
Reels:
A beautiful
marbleized Cozzone 250 yard, free spool surf reel started off the
month with a skyrocket as it soared to $1225, undoubtedly the highest
price ever paid for a SW Cozzone reel. It was in EX as can be seen
from the photo to the right. A 150 yd Cozzone FS surf reel in Mint
reached $255, and illustrated the value of the marble colored plates.
Reels from the UK included a Perth style wood and brass Scottish
Salmon reel with 4.5" plates, and VG in a leather case, brought
$356.56. A 6 spoke Allcock Coxon Aerial, 4.5" diameter, and EX sold
for $1225.56. As always there were lots of Hardy reels, including a
Bougle 3¼" trout reel in VG at
$4050, a 3-3/8" uncatalogued fly reel in Spitfire finish and EX at
$1775, and a St. George multiplier, also in Spitfire finish, with
agate line guide and EX for $2030.17.
Fly reel sales were brisk, and
lead by a Wm Mills & Son raised pillar multiplying fly reel with
planetary gearing and EX received 22 bids before selling for $6175. An
Edward vom Hofe Peerless early trout reel, GS and HR with protected
rims and G-VG condition reached $1807. A Bogdan No. 0 fly reel in Mint
topped out at $2550, and a Salmon 100 multiplier in EX reached $980.
An A. L. Walker 4/0 Salmon model in EX brought $3800. A
Philbrook & Paine fly reel with Abbey & Imbrie markings, which was in
VG condition except for a knob repair, reached $1102.77. A Loomis,
Plumb & Co. nickel plated automatic reel with replaced spool screw and
G-VG sold for $620.
An
Australian Dinkum Model B, brass and cedar sidecast reel in VG sold
for $618.70. It is pictured to the left. An ABU 505 spincast reel that
was NIB drew lots of attention and sold for $325.
Kentucky reel
sales included a German silver BF Meek #5 with numbered screw heads,
jeweled and EX which brought $5,900. A rare George Gayle level wind
reel in EX reached $5,457. Not quite a Kentucky reel, except by
designers location, a very nice Henshall-Van Antwerp reel in German
silver and VG brought $2036.89.
Lures:
I think everyone was waiting for all the excitement from Lang's
tremendous lure selection to die down. However, we did find some near
lures. Including a Michigan North Channel Minnow,
white/green back, 5
hook, and EX- that brought $610. It is shown to the right.
Moonlight Trout Bob in white, VG+ which sold for $305. A Millsite
Rattlebug, black with red and yellow trim and EX sold for $240; while
a mint Paddle Bug in goldfish color reached $330. A Kimmich Mouse that
was EX in a VG box sold for $355. A Bolton's ABC Minnow, white/red
back and EX- brought $546.89
Heddon lures included a 260 Surface
Minny, W/R eyes and tail, toilet seat hook rig, and EX for $500. A
Dealer Display of 12 Hi-Tails on a card and EX sold for $710.01.
Pflueger baits were lead off by a Mint on Card Conrad Frog reached
$178.50. An Admiral Spinner with root pattern black and EX brought
998.88.
A Creek Chub Baby Jointed Pikie #2725 in white scale and EX
reached $707. An Open Mouth Shiner that was EX in a VG intro
box/papers and in redside chub color sold for $760.78. A Crawdad
#7018, silver flash, that was EX in an EX box/papers brought $355.
Shakespeare lures from
c1930 had beautiful paint jobs. An example was this Tantalizer in
perch color, ball hook hanger, and EX. It sold for $217.50 and you can
see it to the left.
A Fishmaster Bass Aqua Striper lure that was
Mint in box, blue/white stripe, sold for $385. An EX Bagley Rat Fink
in baby bass color brought $203.05.
Miscellaneous
Fishing Stuff:
A South Bend postcard from 1921, advertising a Surf Oreno, and in
EX sold for $132.50. A Pflueger shipping crate, 13x21x8.5 inches and
VG reached $235. A Lou Eppinger round split
shot tin in VG sold
for $127.76. A W. J. Cummins catalog from 1885 and in VG brought $285.
A limited edition (1500) portfolio "Fish by Schaldach" by William
Schaldach and VG sold for $118.50. An August 1899 copy of Field &
Stream magazine in VG topped out at $107.50. A Heddon leaping bass
counter top display for the River Runt in G condition sold for $1199.
A rare Marbles Safety
Axe Co. Handy Fish Knife in VG sold for $1326.01. It is shown to the
right.
A Lindstrom wind up toy outboard motor, EX in Box brought
$188.50. A green with gold trim Eclipse Minnow Bucket that was VG sold
for $218.01.
A shadow box featuring two Walt Dette flies, created by
Don Leyden for the Clearwater chapter of Trout Unlimited and in EX
sold for $218.50.
An EX Wooden carp net made of burnt cane and ash,
used by Chris Yates, and marked "Edward Border Makers" reached
$682.21. An Orvis leather trimmed canvas shoulder bag in good
condition sold for $157.50.
Rods:
This category was led off by an antique British fly rod, engraved
"George Eaton, London 1835" on it. The rod was of ash, greenheart,
lancewood, and with whalebone tips. It was in VG condition and brought
$2650.
A Bristol F-12 bamboo fly rod, 3/2, and mint sold for
$156.50. A Payne 7'6", 3/2, in EX reached $2844.06. A Leonard #40L,
8', 2/2 for a 4 wt line and EX sold for $1401.99.
An Orvis
impregnated bamboo 7' spinning rod in EX reached $294.
A Heddon Pal
#4806 SC, 6' Medium action, fiberglass rod with pistol grip, and mint
sold for $283.
