eBay Report - August 2007

The highlight on the month was a great advertising lithograph...

Miscellaneous Tackle.

The above mentioned piece was a chromolithograph for Martin L. Bradford of Boston, dated to 1866. This item had been cleaned to restore the colors, and it was a beauty as you can see here. The electronic gavel finally came down at $7,467. A Weber Fly Company oak display box in VG had 29 bids before selling for $494.99. A metal fish shaped sign stating "WORMS" and in VG brought $280.

An 1886 copy of John Harrington Keene's oft quoted book "Fishing Tackle, Its Material & Manufacture" in G condition sold for $134.50. A leaping musky Schmidt lighted beer sign of metal and plastic, 8 x 10 inches, and EX sold for $202.50.

An Ashaway Zane Grey line spool that was VG in an EX box sold for $224.50. An Edward Vom Hofe reel oil bottle with cork stopper and EX brought $350. A Wm. Mills & Son corked oil bottle EX in a G box sold for $142.50. A brass B. F. Meek & Sons screwdriver in EX reached $581. Another in VG brought $314.98.

This folk art bobber, which was 8½" overall and in EX condition, sold for $152.49. There was some controversy over its age, so you be the judge. Regardless, it's a cool looking item.

A 1926 Shakespeare catalog #26 in EX sold for $121.50. A 1941 Heddon catalog in EX brought $175. The first 10 issues of Bassmaster Magazine (Spring 1968 to Fall 1970), EX in 2 binders, sold for $837.77. A 1915 (2nd year) California paper fishing license in VG condition reached $159.48.

Another highlight was a Creek Chub Bait Co. Injured Minnow fish decoy. It was in the desirable red wing blackbird color, and EX in a VG unmarked box. It sold for $1775.

A McSwain green glass minnow trap in VG condition sold for $249.

Lures:

Heddon lures started off nice with a #103 Minnow in Aluminum that was EX- in an EX wooden box with papers. It sold for $2025. An EX plastic Chugger Spook in strawberry brought $422.70. A #379M Musky SOS Minnow in pike scale and EX- reached $433.88. A Big Mary SW lure, VG in a VG box and W/RH & glitter, sold for $188.01. A Zaragossa #6500 in goldfish scale and EX brought $356.51. A plastic Magnum Torpedo in Natural Punkinseed that was EX in a G box brought $249.09. A plastic Lucky 13 in a strange black scale/spots over grey or silver and EX sold for $285.

Creek Chub Bait Co. lures featured a Jointed Husky Pikie in a special redside color that was VG in a VG box that brought $687.55. A Husky Plunker #5807 in Mullet, EX in an EX box, $459. A Humbird F-302, R&Y and EX in an Unmarked box with repro insert sold for $380.99. A box only for a Chub Wiggler with papers and VG brought $621.11.

A South Bend Floating Minnow #921, W/R arrowhead, sold for $203.50. A plastic Fin Dingo in black shore and EX- brought $252.50.

A Pflueger Kent Frog, green frog color and EX sold for $478.32.

Lures from miscellaneous companies included a very realistic Louis Rhead Sculpin Minnow that was EX and brought $426. It is shown to the left. An early wooden Bomber, white with black chevrons and tail, in EX sold for $237.50. A Garland Corkhead Minnow, white/red head but only Good, reached $464. A Bagley Pinfish, Mint in plastic box, in blue scale color sold for $256.89. An Arbogast Jitterbug that was half green frog and half yellow frog and NIB brought $200. A Musky Jitterbug with 2 trebles, W/RH, EX in a P intro box reached $765.55. A Darby Spin Head Weedless, EX in a G box in green body with Red head, sold for $358.53. An Outing Pikie Getum in gold scale color and VG brought $214.27. A K&K Animated minnow that was unknown by the seller and VG sold for $390. A Jamison Nemo, R/WH and VG in a VG box reached $500. A 3" Paw Paw Croaker frog skin bait in EX brought $281.56. An early Roberts Mud Puppy with glass eyes, sucker color, and G in a G box sold for $676.

Metal baits included a Chapman Water Nymph in VG for $406.99. A box only for a Spalding's New Hammered Bait in VG sold for $1525.

Reels:

A really cool Australian Alan Aspirin sidecast reel, 5½" in diameter with a wooden spool and in VG sold for $588.58. It is shown to the right.

An Edward Vom Hofe Matecombe M560 surf reel#1 size in VG sold for 676.66. A Holzman surf reel in EX brought $1025. A Meisselbach Expert #33 trolling reel in EX reached $284.99. A Fin-Nor 206 12/0 big game reel in VG sold for $845.

Newer casting reels included a Pflueger 510 that was EX in VG+ case with tools, papers, etc sold for $177.50. A pair of Daiwa Pro Tournament baitcasters that were mint in box did extremely well, with a blue 152X selling for $382 and a maroon 10X bringing $229.39. A Shakespeare President II from 1980, NIB/papers, etc reached $257. A Lew's Speed Spool BB1-N (Ryobi) that was Mint in box/papers, etc. sold for $177.50; while a second brought $153.50.

Ambassadeur reels included a 6500 that was EX in an EX box with papers, etc. It brought $623. A #30 big game reel, EX in case/spare spool, reached $610.51. A 5500CDL, one of 500 made for BASS that was VG in its wooden box received 27 bids before selling for $2001.23.

Fly reels of note included a SeaMaster Mark 1, trout size in VG-EX that brought $1744. A Fin-Nor #1 VG/case & papers sold for $860. A Leonard Bi-Metal, 2-5/8" in VG sold for $1302.77 and another in 2-1/8" diameter reached $1026.01. A very rare Rome 2 in 1 Automatic fly reel, pat 1907, and VG sold for $366.97. It is shown to the left. A 3" Billinghurst bird cage style reel in VG brought $1637. An Edward Vom Hofe 413 salmon fly reel in 6/0 size and EX sold for $3161. A Meisselbach 1st version Amateur in G received 23 bids before selling for $676.

Bronson Invaders were common this month with several sold. One that was EX/case & instructions brought $444.10; Another in VG reached $416.50; and another also in VG topped out at $224.93 - you figure it out.

Rods:

A Wright & McGill 7' bamboo spinning rod, 2/1 in mint sold for $270.55. A 6'6" Orvis Rocky Mountain 3/1 Mint spinning rod in wooden case brought $500.

Fiberglass rods included a Ted Williams (Sears) 6' casting rod in EX that brought $257.09. A Fenwick Voyageur combo spin/fly rod, 7', 4/1 reached $200. A Fenwick Lunker Stik, 5'6" Mdl 1457 heavy action sold for $217.75.

An EX Orchard Industries steel Action Rod with cream/green handle sold for $152.50.

A bamboo Edwards-Bristol 9' fly rod, 3/2 and EX sold for $225. A Leonard Duracane 7'6", 2/2, EX reached $985.55. A Shakespeare A-1305, 9', 3/2 and EX brought $227.50. A Gart Bros. Sporting Goods 8'6", 3/2 in EX sold for $247.05. A Thomas & Thomas "Montana", 8'6", 3/2 in EX reached $1950. An E. F. Payne 7', 2/1 made for Abercrombie & Fitch and EX sold for $3051.55. A scarce P. Wm. Arend, Denver fly rod, 7'6", 2/2 and VG brought $775. A Dickerson 9', 3/2 in VG reached $1125. And finally an antique A. G. Spalding & Bros. "The Kosmic" with ratan handle in G sold for $276.
