eBay Report - December 2004
Need a Zippo lighter for your New Year's Cigar. That should be about
as politically incorrect as possible, but if you're like me, you
wouldn't have wanted to pay for the one that came up on eBay this
month...
Miscellaneous Fishing Stuff
The Zippo lighter
mentioned above is shown to the right. It was decorated with an
enameled Actionrod logo and was in EX condition. A couple of Zippo
lighter collectors drove the price out of sight for fishing tackle
collectors as it sold for $221.01. However, I'll bet it's a lot rarer
than 99% of those rods. A rare Hardy Zane Grey Big Game Reel oil
bottle in chrome plated finish sold for $284.35. It was followed up by
a 4" brass grease gun for the same reel in VG that topped out at $508.
A RockAway Fishing chair with lots of nickel plating and VG brought
$1249.99. A Marbles spring gaff without the wooden handle but o/w VG
sold for $169.98.
The early Bristol Rod poster of the lady near the
canoe seemed a bargain at only $240.55. It was in a frame and was only
G-VG. A mint Heddon 5 year employee pin in the original box reached
$180.27. A 48 page 1902 program from the world casting tournament held
at Golden Gate Park and sponsored by the San Francisco Fly Casting
Club sold for $203.51. A full set (9) of Heddon fish prints that were
EX in the original shipping envelope received 31 bids before topping
out at $156.39.
The
Maine Birch Bark creel shown to the left brought $172.50. A nice round
wicker creel with tooled leather trim and EX sold for $577.75. An
older oak tackle box in VG sold for $230.
A 1st Ed. copy of O. W.
Smith's The Book of the Pike from 1922 in VG with a G dust cover
brought $152.49. The book was signed. A Copy of Thaddeus Norris, The
American Angler's Book, also a first Ed. from 1864 and VG sold for
$301. A new copy of the out of print Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook,
by Michael Sinclair topped out at $205.50. An EX copy of Dennis
Roberts Mitchell Collectors Reference Guide received 24 bids before
selling for $450. A Hardy Bros. 1894 catalogue in EX proved to be a
top seller at $3982.44. A #28 Montague rod and reel catalog in VG sold
for $204.49. An 1896 Chubb catalog in VG sold for $650, and a 1927
catalog from the same maker in EX reached $162.50. A #21 Shakespeare
Catalog in G brought $270.
Reels:
A "from the field"
Kosmic 2-1/8" hard rubber and German silver trout reel that was in VG
unpolished condition sold for $3050. It is shown here. An model 300
Otto Zwarg Z stamp salmon fly reel in 2/0 size and EX condition topped
out at $3557. Another Zwarg model 300 in 1/0 size and EX sold for
$4020. An Edward Vom Hofe Tobique 1/0 salmon reel that was customized
and EX sold for $5400. A Liberty Bell Mdl A fly reel in VG brought
$521. A 4 Bros. Egalite fly reel #1906, 3" diameter and VG sold for
$362.56. An older Pflueger Medalist #1492 which was G in a poor maroon
box/papers reached $307.50. A Seamaster Tarpon fly reel, VG in a VG
box with papers sold for $2815.
Casting reels of interest included an
Arjon Commander that was EX in its leather case/accessories. It
brought $430. A red Ambassadeur 4500 from 1978 that was NIB sold for
$561.23. An Ambassadeur 5500 with brown plates and EX sold for $261.
An Ambassadeur 5500 gold high speed reel in VG brought $1225. A couple
of "modern" Heddon's, a #2 LW that was EX in a VG box brought $270,
while a Pal Pro Weight M26 in VG reached $182.50.
Older
casting reels included a Heddon 3-15 stamped with the Smeltzer's
Hardware, K.C. in VG+ which sold for $588. A Pflueger Redifor in EX
brought $202.50, and a Douglas patent early Supreme in VG sold for
$305. A Talbot #3 in VG with Nevada, Mo. markings brought $915, and a
KC Mo. marked #35 in EX sold for $1025. A B. F. Meek & Sons jeweled #2
Tournament
handled reel in VG sold for $887.77. A J.A. Coxe 94-C LW
casting reel in EX sold for $90, and a Coxe X-Pert 20 in EX brought
$202.49. A Meisselbach-Catucci Symploreel #254 in VG wowed me at
$338.63.
British
reels of interest included a Allcock Coxon Aerial of wood and hard
rubber. It was 4" and VG and brought $1799, and is shown to the left.
A Chas. Farlow 2" brass fly reel, c1860/ivory knob, in EX sold for
$380.01.
A Shakespeare Hoosier Indiana style reel in VG brought $293.88. A
Waltonian casting reel from Square Stamping Co, and EX sold for $281.
A Hawks & Ogilvy brass ball handle reel in 80 yd size sold for
$616.53.
Lures:
Miscellaneous lures started the month with a VG Miller's Reversible
Minnow in strawberry color
that
brought $2247.06. It is pictured at the right. A couple of old W. D.
Chapman Allure #2 spinners came up. They were in G-VG condition and
sold for $235.83 and $228. A yellow Vaughn's Lure, EX in a VG picture
box/papers reached $569.90. An EX Immell Skipper, white/red and green
spots sold for $811. A K&K Animated Minnow, green back/silver and VG
sold for $655.03. A Copper colored Jerry Sylvester Bass Aqua lure in
VG brought $248.25. A nice Harkauf-Pequea 3 hook minnow in green and
silver and VG sold for $500. An Arnold Tackle Co (Paw Paw) lure called
The Rat, black/white head and EX in an EX box reached $795.99. An
Arbogast Tin Liz Walleye in mint condition sold for $620.
A
Heddon River Runt #110 in scale finish and EX condition sold for
$456.88. Other Heddon baits included a #740 Punkinseed in Goldfish and
mint, which sold for $1425. A Punky #980, red head/flitter and EX,
brought $835. A Torpedo Spook (Tenite) in pike finish and EX sold for
$1236. A Musky Surfusser #350 in Strawberry color and EX condition
sold for $725. An EX 800 Swimming Minnow in a VG white box with papers
reached $5300. The lure was strawberry color. A Stanley Flipper, EX-
in Strawberry sold for $800.
A very neat colored five hook Four
Brothers (Pflueger) Neverfail Minnow that was EX in a VG box sold for
$1225.
Salt Water baits included a Striper Atom in blue silver color and
VG in a VG box/papers (which ID'd the lure as 1947) sold for $262. A
VG Barracuda Torpecuda lure from Florida Fishing Tackle Co. in a VG
box reached $1626. It white with black stripes and had glass eyes.
Shakespeare lures had
a big month, and included a beautiful Musky Revolution that was Yellow
with Gold Spots and in EX condition. It sold for $3885 and is pictured
to the left. A picture box only for a 3 hook minnow #42RW sold for
$4655. There was also a picture box for a Musky Minnow. It was in poor
condition but still brought $3700. A 5 hook Underwater Minnow,
yellow/red back and 5.5" long received 23 bids before selling for
$2050.50.
A VG CCBC Big Creek Bug Wiggler #1400 (bug finish) in VG
in a G box sold for $834.65. A CCBC Striper Pikie #6831W and rainbow
fire colored that was EX in an EX box reached for $355. A nifty Fly
Rod Mouse #F213 and EX in a VG box topped out at $1051. An EX CCBC box
only for a #201 reached $836. This was a picture box for the 200
Wiggler. A Pikie #700 that was EX in an EX picture box with papers
topped out at $2907.50. A white/blue head Pikie #710 that was mint in
an EX box sold for $600.
Rods:
Notable bamboo rods included a Wright & McGill Granger Victory, 8',
3/2 for a 5 wt line that was in VG original condition and sold for
$348.15. A Dickerson 7' #7011-E, 2/2 for a 4 wt and EX topped out at
$5600. An antique H. L. Leonard Catskill 8'6", 3/2 with intermediate
wraps reached $950. A modern Leonard 7', 3/2, Model 48DF in EX sold
for $2550. A Jim Payne 8' Model 102, 2/2 in EX condition received 23
bids and sold for $3600.
A Silaflex MF65 glass fly rod from the Leon
Chandler estate and VG brought $305. A Russ Peak 6' fiberglass rod for
a 3 weight line, 2/2 with one tip 4" short sold for $1445.
Casting rods
included a Heddon Pal #6865 Mark III fiberglass rod that was EX and
sold for $104.85. It can be seen to the right. A Browning-Silaflex
that was mint in its case, 6', 2/1 medium action, that sold for $200.
The appetite for Johnson/Phillipson casting rods seems endless as a
600 Profile 6C60, 6", 2/1 in VG sold for $725, and later in the month
another in "as new" condition brought $455.
It seems like it was only a few days ago when we were worrying about
everything crashing during the Millennium. I hope everyone has a happy
and successful 2005.
