Spinning Reel Report - December 2006

HO-HO-HO  AND E-BAY WAS ROCKIN THIS MONTH !!!

First Time ever listed on the bay was a super-super rare Ball On Ball By Karge and Son spinning reel that was NIB. the seller stated that there was a small production run of less than 50 of these made and that there are less than 5 known to exist today and that the box is the only one known to exist.  Actually there are only three known to exist today and the box is in fact the only one known to exist.  it was a bit surprising to me that there were only 9 bids with a high bid of $520.00 that did not meet the reserve!!! I guess that most collectors just didn’t know just how rare these are???

On the other hand --- don’t believe every thing that you read. Now I’m not an e-bay Sheriff but every so often my curiosity gets the best of me. thus was the case with a listing for an Abu Garcia Cardinal C-33 NIB. The seller stated that these were produced in very limited numbers mainly salesman's samples because of a lawsuit by Zebco which forced Abu to change to the model C-3. YA RIGHT !!!!!

Now I just had to e-mail the seller to ask where he had gotten this information. His reply was ----- Zebco had a Cardinal model 33, Abu had bought the cardinal name but evidently Zebco held on to the cardinal 33 rights.  OK I e-mail him back to explain who I was and gave him a brief history of Abu and Zebco. I did not think that I would hear back from him and I did not—Oh Well!!!!

The reel had a starting price of $49.99 with no Bids.

Are selling prices getting higher and higher on some reels?
