Christmas seems to slow down collectors a bit, as thoughts turn to
gifts for others. Still there were some interesting sales...
Miscellaneous Fishing Stuff
Almost all collectors, unless they are living in a cave (sorry
Geiko caveman), seem aware that Hardy Bros. make some neat fishing
tackle. This month a Hardy leather tackle and reel
box
in EX condition received 29 bids before topping out at $1454. It was
nice. One of the most attractive Hardy items is their Neroda fly box.
An EX condition one with some flies in it sold for $301.60 and is
shown to the right. An English Taylor Eyewitness fishing knife in VG
brought 232.13. A brass creel shaped match holder in EX sold for
$173.27.
Certain in the "wowser" category was a collection of
ABU catalogs, 1948-1970, from the factory and EX in binders. They sold
for $2025. Also creating a lot of interest was a Hardy Jock Scott
Spinning (US baitcasting) Outfit. It included a rod, reel, catalog,
line drier, and other misc. stuff - all VG in a wooden box, and sold
for $1760.78.
A Wm. Mills reel oil bottle with screw top that was EX in
an EX- box brought $197.50. A Kelso round celo top split shot tin in
EX sold for $147.50. A Penn Reel Company thermometer in EX reached
$104.49. An EX Mercury Outboard Motor lighted clock sold for $202.50.
An
Alumacraft Motor Boat sign, painted on both sides, in EX condition,
brought $405. An Abbey & Imbrie poster with both top and bottom metal
bands came up. It pictured a fly fisherman, was in VG condition, and
sold for $710. A Zippo lighter advertising Lowrance Fish Lo-K-Tor
in EX sold for $189.99.
A Lucas rectangular
minnow bucket in VG sold for $267. An unidentified submarine type
minnow bucket in VG reached $310.55. It is shown to the left. A Camp
glass minnow trap in EX brought $137.50.
A
Willie Peterson 5.75" decoy, white/red head and glitter and EX sold
for $510. Four 10-12" bobbers with lines and VG sold for $527.17.
Lures:
A #3231 Plunker in Rainbow fire started off the Creek Chub baits.
It was EX in a VG box and
sold for $346.89. A
Gar in Champaign color in VG brought $442.77. The EX Floating Fly Rod
Minnow shown to the right brought $1081.89. A Husky Musky in VG-
condition and goldfish color reached $667. A silver flash Jigger, new
in a poor box sold for $294.99. A red wing blackbird Injured Minnow
that was EX in a G+ box sold for $355. A Jointed Pikie, silver
scale/black stripe and VG reached $380.55. A white/black head Wiggler
in VG sold for $411. A rainbow fire Spoon Bill lure that was mint in
an EX box soared to $510.
A South Bend Surf Oreno,
white/red wave & glitter in EX sold for $610. A Midget Surf Oreno,
green crackleback with Bing's hooks that was EX in a VG+ box/papers
sold for $427.77. A Pike-Oreno, blue wave blend and EX brought
$330.01.
A Shakespeare Musky Revolution in EX brought $687. A
Pflueger Catalina Minnow, strawberry spot, and VG in a G box reached
$699.89.
A Shoff Socko King Salmon plug, pear pink and 5", EX in a
VG box sold for $285. An EX Detroit Glass Minnow Tube in a poor box
brought $661. An Arbogast Jitterbug, in a green/orange "Big O" color
and EX sold for $229.50. A plastic strawberry color Jitterbug that was
EX in an EX- box received 33 bids and brought $275. A Mint in EX
box/paper Schaefer
Turbulent
Tiger lure reached $561. The Manhattan underwater Minnow, EX in a VG
box sold for $1313.88. It is shown to the left. A Brown's Fisheretto,
W/RH, EX- in a G box brought $691.11. An Al Foss Little Egypt Pork
Rind Minnow, EX in an EX intro box + an extra minnow brought $475. A
MIB live action frog in green frog sold for $256.50. A Stan Gibbs
Cast-A-Lure in mackerel color and new in box received 25 bids and sold
for $537. A Paul Bunyon Buck-O-Spoon with black tail and NIB brought
$160.39, while a Buck's Musky Spoonplug #707 (7 inches long) in perch
color sold for $455. A Wilson Wobbler, white/red flutes, and EX in a G
box reached $431.39.
Heddon lures included a strawberry spot Spindiver in VG
that reached $620. Another that was EX- in frog spot brought 911.99. A
green crackleback Darting Zara that was EX sold for $354.99. A Baby
Gamefisher in rainbow that was mint in box received 23 bids before
selling for $355. A Florida Special, white/glitter and EX brought
$271.65. A Deep-O-Diver, Yellow/black nose and EX- in an EX intro box
sold for $647.84. A 200, W/blue nose, and EX in a VG box reached $511.
A Near Surface Wiggler #1700, VG in a pretty red scale finish topped
out at $780. A green crackleback Polly Runt #5100 that was mint in a
mint box/ papers sold for $1325. Heddon Plastics included a VG Super Sonic in purple scale that brought
$214.50. A Tiny Torpedo, black/white spots and VG brought $132.50.
Rods:
Bamboo fly rods started off with a Wright & McGill Granger Victory,
8'6", 3/2 that was mint. It sold for $590. Another W&McG Granger - a
Special - 7'6", 3/2 and EX brought $1136. A Dickerson 9'6" steelhead
fly rod, 3/1 and EX reached $610. An 8' Winston, 2/1 and EX topped out
at $871, while a Leonard Baby Catskill, 6', 2/2, and EX sold for
$2550. An unusual Heddon "Southfield", 8'6", 3/2 and VG brought $200.
A Heddon #14 Thorobred, 7'6", 2/2 and VG sold for $430. An E.W.
Edwards Sons Mt. Carmel 9', 3/1 and VG reached $310.
An unusual
Heddon #22A Rip Tide salmon or musky bamboo casting rod, 5'6", 2/1 and
EX sold for $153.55.
Fiberglass rods included a Pflueger Megaflex
casting rod, 2/1, 5'6" and mint. It brought $279. A Browning Silaflex
#312920, 2/1, 5'6" and EX reached $202.50.
Reels:
Fly reels of
interest were led by a small brass ball handle model that was 2-2/3"
in diameter by 7/8" wide. It is shown to the right, and sold for
$518.88. A Hardy Bougle, c1930s, 3¼" and mint brought $2036. A Hardy
St. George Jr. 2-9/16" and EX sold for $1200. US fly reels included an
Orvis 1874 pat. that was VG- in the wooden box which topped out at
$688. An older model Pflueger Medalist #1492 in G sold for $267.62. A
scarce Meisselbach Good Luck #6 fly reel that was mislabeled South
Bend and only in G condition was still recognized by enough collectors
to bring $315. A brass faced Hardy Perfect salmon reel, 4.5" in
diameter and VG sold for $1700.
Casting reels included an unmarked Talbot in EX that sold for $515. A
marked Talbot Meteor that was VG in a VG box reached 967.77. The power
of a name was illustrated when a Winchester #2392 utility reel that
was in poor condition in a poor box topped out at $355. Another
example was a Meisselbach/Heddon trade Tripart reel, missing the
tailplate bearing, and overall G-VG that sold for $346.50. Then a
Winchester #4256 jeweled multiplier in EX sold for $140.50. A Pflueger
Worth Kentucky style reel in EX brought $268.63. Another later 80 yard
version EX in an EX leather case sold for $154.49. A Meek & Milam #3
with numbered screws, half handle/ivory knob at 12:00 and EX sold for
$3500. An Edward Vom Hofe small bass reel, 2-5/16" x 1-1/2" wide and
VG brought $1325. A Heddon 3-35 level wind that was EX in box/papers
and leather case brought $366.88, while a 3-25, also EX in box sold
for $238.45. An very interesting Edward vom Hofe black bass style
multiplier that was only 2-5/16" in diameter x 1/2" wide and was in VG
topped out at $1325.
More
modern casting reels included a Pflueger 2600 that was VG in a VG
box/parts, which brought $579.99. A wowser! was an ABU Ambassadeur
5500C Deluxe, blue/gold trim in presentation box which sold for $3520.
It is pictured to the left. A 4600C Ambassadeur that was EX in a G
box/papers, etc. brought $227.50.
A Zwarg Maximo 4/0 big game reel
in VG reached $433.88. A Pflueger Templar 450 yard, with Williams drag
and EX sold for $343.88. A Winchester #2647 200 yd. surf casting reel
in VG- sold for $280.99. A Julius Vom Hofe B-Ocean 9/0 big game reel
that was EX in an EX marked leather case reached $537. An EX
Meisselbach Neptune brought $142.50.
