eBay Report - February
2007
Although "cabin fever" is a problem for many collectors this time of
year, eBay helped relieve the symptoms a bit. There was some terrific
tackle offered to buyers this month.
Miscellaneous Tackle Stuff:
There was some great
miscellaneous tackle items sold in February, starting with a wonderful
copper submarine type minnow bucket that was only 15" long x 4½"
in diameter. It was signed with a logo and "J. Fox, NY". It was in EX
condition and received 24 bids before selling for $885. It is shown
here. A Cream City Security floating minnow bucket, green with nice
silver graphics and VG topped out at $188.06.
A handmade, old walnut tackle box with brass
trim, and VG brought $292. A leather tackle box by C. Farlow & Co. Ltd
in VG brought $318.73. A Mik Mag (?) Indian creel c1900s of woven ash
and VG+ reached $237.25, and a Hardy creel with net and EX, c1920s or
30s, brought $1050.
February brought a plethora of outstanding
catalogs for collectors. Included were some Heddon catalogs - a G 1930
$212.50; a VG #14 (1916), which looked trimmed to me but brought
$1275. Shakespeare catalogs included a 1928D for $202.49; a 1924 for
$202.49; a 1925 for $215.02. South Bend catalogs included a 1922 in VG
for $134. An Edward Vom Hofe 1927 catalog in VG brought $482.77, while
a 1938 catalog also VG reached $140.50. A Chubb catalog from 1925 and
EX sold for $150. A 1946 ABU catalog for Record Reels in VG brought
$383. This was the first English language ABU catalog.
A
printers block of a CCBC Midget Beetle, c1940s, in EX condition sold
for $371.66. It is shown to the left. A VG Garcia Mitchell dealer
electric clock in VG sold for $299. A photo of a woman fisherman, with
a marlin and a Kovalovsky reel in EX brought $192.49. An EX Coho
Salmon Club pin, gold/red enamel, for a 50+ pound Coho reached $334,
while a pair of Chinook Salmon Club pins, silver for a 40 pound fish
and copper for a 30 pounder reached $168.50.
Reels:
There were some
very nice fly reels sold in February. An older Pflueger Medalist
#1392, c1930, that was EX in a VG maroon box probably set a record for
this very popular fly reel as it reached $1100. It is shown to the
right. A Meisselbach Featherlight #260, nickel stamped frame and VG
sold for $136.50. A Leonard Mills hard rubber and German silver fly
reel with half handle sold for $962. It was 2-3/4" in diameter. A B.
F. Meek & Sons #44 German silver fly reel in VG brought $7,375.55. A
Talbot Ben Hur German silver, 2-1/8" in EX with papers sold for
$8,900. An Edward Vom Hofe 6/0 #423 salmon fly reel in EX sold for
$1701. An EVH #504 in 3/0 size and EX brought $1502. Another one in
the smaller 1/0 size that was mint in a leather case reached $3016.
The seller was from Ireland. A Thompson Model 500 fly reel, EX in a VG
box with papers brought $516.
A VG jeweled Horton Meek #7 reached $598.99. A Meek #2 tournament
model with balsa arbor and triple knobbed handle in VG sold for $999.
A Scarce Harris handle reel c1903 in VG sold for $361.09.
A Julius Vom Hofe B-Ocean 2/0 in EX brought $371, while an Edward Vom
Hofe #491, GS/HR, 2/0 size, in a poor leather case sold for $328. A
12/0 Penn Senator that was VG in a G black box brought $305.
More modern casting reels included a Shakespeare President II that was
NIB which sold for $276. A Brown Ambassadeur #5500 that was Mint in a
poor box/leather case and accessories reached $761. A Bronson Crusader
#30 EX in a VG box brought $103. An Ocean City #1950 casting reel, NIB
topped out at $213.50! Wow!
A nice looking, EX antique brass multiplying clamp reel with ivory
knob sold for $423.
Lures:
Some baits by miscellaneous makers included a Jim Donaly Diver,
yellow/red ribs and
VG
sold for $425. The rare Lane's Automatic Minnow shown to the right, VG
with a brown back topped out at $1925. An EX in G box Arbogast
Jitterbug that was white/black ribs. It sold for $480.51. Another that
was yellow/brown back and VG sold for $589.99. A new condition dealer
box of 12 Bomber Knotheads #1306, white/black ribs, brought $1200. A
Johnson Automatic Striker in perch and mint in a G box reached $610. A
weedless 2½" Lauby Lure that was EX in a
VG+ box sold for $660. It was Rainbow color. A State Frog lure in a
blended green, yellow and red color and VG sold for $430. A Bing's
Weedless Nemahbin Minnow, silver and VG, brought $1200.
A Fred Young Big O that was presented to Bobby Murray, the first
Bassmaster Classic champion, sold for $1481.56. It had a certificate
providing authenticity and was in VG condition. A Bug N' Bass,
yellow/red head and EX brought $455. A Hardy Pearl Devon, pink color
that was EX in a G box sold for $402.60. A Virgin Mermaid with black
pants and EX brought $200. (times sure have changed). A Storm Wiggle
Wart, white with black spots and new in box reached $587.77.
A Creek Chub Bait Co. Deluxe Wagtail Chub, rainbow and EX, sold for
$343.55. A redwing blackbird Midget Plunker, EX in an EX box/papers,
brought $490.50. A Jigger, black with night glow white head, EX- in a
VG box, sold for $367.67. A Crawdad EX in a VG intro box/papers sold
for $1925. A Wiggler, also in intro box/papers, and in natural scale
brought $1525. It was EX and the box was also EX.
A VG Heddon 100 Minnow in blue crackleback and VG sold for $710. A 151
Minnow in rainbow and VG in its wooden box/papers reached $686.55. A
Go Deeper River Runt
Spook with scoop lip in goldfish color and EX
sold for $465 and another in red/spook pattern and EX also brought
$465.. A River Runt #9409GW glow worm that was VG in a VG
box/papers brought $308. A Giant River Runt #1512 RET, white/red tail
& eyes, and VG brought $500.99. However, all those Runts were
topped by a blue shore minnow RR spook in EX. It is shown to the left
(or above) and sold for $620.
Metal baits included a Pflueger Royal Ball spinner which was EX- and
sold for $263.88. A McHarg Electric Pike Bait with a fancy dimpled
brass and copper blade and bucktail hooks in EX reached $611. A
Chapman small #3 International Minnow in EX sold for $1525.
A Shakespeare Albany Floating Bait #64, white with blue head and VG
sold for $400. A Musky Revolution in VG and aluminum reached $1550. A
South Bend Midget Surf Oreno #962, Rainbow, that was EX in an EX intro
box with papers topped out at $1100.
Rods:
There were several nice bamboo casting rods offered this month,
including a Heddon
#6,
5'6", 2/1 and EX that brought $610. It is shown here. A Macy's Dept.
Store trade rod made by Heddon brought $391. It was 5', 2/1 and EX
condition. A Heddon 5'6", 2/2 with stamped reel seat sold for $374. A
Heddon "The $1.00 Rod", bamboo casting rod with a wooden grip, 5',
2/1, c1912 and EX sold for $560.
Fly rods included a Phillipson Paramount #51 Dry Fly Special, 8'6",
3/2 in Mint condition, which sold for $1000.99. A Swedish Arjon #31
Black Zulu, 8'6", 2/2 in EX brought $222.50. An Orvis Madison by Wes
Jordan, 7', 2/1, and EX reached $560. A Payne 8', 3/2, which had been
made for Abercrombie & Fitch in EX received 20 bids before selling for
$5850. A Weber Henshall Masterkraft #3500, 8'6", 3/2 and mint brought
$331.50. A Lyle Dickerson 8014, 8', 2/2 did well, garnering $7900. An
Edward Vom Hofe 8', 3/2 antique rod with rattan grip and tip case that
had been restored to EX sold for $471. A Montague Rapidan 7'6", 2/2
and EX- brought $225.50. And finally, a Frank Wire 5 sided , 8', 2/2,
5 wt rod in VG reached $551.51.
