Other Fishing Tackle Fakes:

This one came up on eBay in late 2006. I
guess such a knife would be possible, but no Pflueger collector we
checked with had ever seen such a promotional item.
The fact that the blades were well worn (as shown in another photo)
but the advertising message was in perfect condition you'd think would
sure make a buyer hesitate on this one.
A few bidders did not hesitate as the pocket knife drew 11 bids
before selling for $68.00.
Oh well. |

We have had quite an influx of fake
tackle company calendars in 2004-2005, and I assume this will
continue. Creek Chub Bait Company seems to be the favorite of the guys
who turn these things out.
One clue that most collectors should recognize, and apparently do,
is that the counterfeiters don't know how to spell Garrett (Indiana),
the home of CCBC. Or maybe it's on purpose, so they can say that this
isn't a counterfeit.
This example came up in November 2005 and sold for $37.00, proving
two things: 1) that there are still some suckers out there, and 2)
that most collectors realize this item is a fake. |

People are really getting imaginative. I have received
reports of so many different bags of marbles that it is getting hard
to keep up with them. We have CCBC, South Bend, Winchester, Heddon,
and maybe more. The newest item that I heard about was a tin of CCBC
split shot. Just color copy the end of a CCBC lure box, and glue it
down on a split shot tin, and wowee - a very rare CCBC tin. |

Just a few lines to make you
aware that recently copies of the Hardy 1937 Big Game Tackle
Catalogue have been appearing on Ebay. A colleague of mine purchased
one, at what he thought was a good price, however on inspection it
was a facsimile reprint of the original which was printed and circulated
about 8-10 years ago.
I purchased one of these new for £15 GB sterling in Bath,
England. However, they are coming up now on auction sites, and
buyers are thinking they have 1937 originals. I suspect that the
sellers don't realize they are reprints.

As Emil Polanski said when he sent in this one, "Last
time he sold one of these it was a Winchester". |
