We REEEEELY started off the year with a nice group of reels.
Reels:
One seller had a
group of interesting Kentucky reels. They were led off by a Frank
Fullilove Crown reel in VG, which received 22 bids before selling for
$4055. It is shown to the right. Also offered was a B. C. Milam & Son
#4 reel with crank nut missing and in G condition. It brought $3150. A
Meek & Milam wide spool in the rare #1 size sold for $1825. It had
been converted for tournament use and was only in G condition. A B. F.
Meek & Sons #3 with fixed jeweled bearings in VG reached $1613.80. A
B.C. Milam & Son #3, Jeweled and VG sold for $1100. A Talbot Tomahawk
trade reel for VIM was included in a lot of 4 other common reels. The
seller must have been surprised when the lot sold for $720.89.
Finally, a Meek & Milam #3, brass with numbered screws and VG sold for
$2025.

Vom Hofe & Son brass ball handle NY style reel in EX received 23 bids
before settling at $1112.
Baitcasters included a Wm. Shakespeare Jr.
Style B level wind reel in VG reached $255.85. An Ocean City
E-Z-2-Part with free spool that was EX in a G box brought $262.88. A
Hardy Elarex LW baitcaster in EX sold for $246.16. A Redifor-Flegel
from Warren, OH #3 in VG reached $268.63. A James Heddon's Sons #3-30
in VG+ topped out at $1035. A J. A. Coxe #15 German silver LW reel
that was EX in an EX leather case brought $360.50. A Heddon Pal M25
Pro Weight in EX reached $255.
More modern reels
included an ABU Ambassadeur 5000 Deluxe from the first year, 1963,
with gold plate trim and in its wooden box, which sold for $605. An
Ambassadeur 5500C that was EX in an EX box/papers, etc. brought $313
and a brown 5500 in the same condition reached $355.01. A Shakespeare
President II #1980 HB that was NIB brought $294.10, a second example
in EX condition reached $275.25. A Shimano Bantam 100EX that was EX in
box with papers reached $186.51. A Penn Levelmatic, gold color, and EX
topped out at $111.01.
Fly reels were led off
by a Chapman & Son reel stamped "Teresa, NY" and VG. It had the Silas
Terry 1871 patent on it. The reel sold for $1602 and is shown to the
left. Hardy Perfect that was 4½ inches in
diameter with a wide drum, a 1912 check and VG. It sold for $1100.
A Meisselbach Rainbow #631 with quick latch and in VG condition sold
for $188.58. A 4-Brothers Egalite #1902 in VG reached $457.52. A
Julius vom Hofe #3 hard rubber and German silver, with Abbey & Imbrie
marks and EX sold for $866. An Edward vom Hofe #423 salmon fly reel in
EX in a block case reached $1681.50. A Thompson 100 in VG sold for
$388.
Big Game reels included a Julius vom Hofe B-Ocean 1/0 size and
VG- that sold for $560.
An Italian 4½"
Centerpin reel, with a presentation plate and embossed sports scene
faceplate in EX sold for $435.
Lures:
There were several
interesting fly rod baits this past month. Leading the pack was a CCBC
wooden Fly Rod Darter in silver flash and EX, which was bid to $2000.
It is shown to the right. There were also several EX CCBC Flex Float
Feather Minnows - one in Lord Baltimore pattern brought $627 and
another in Pikie Scale reached $608.
Hanging among the Creek Chub
Bait Co. lures was a Clothes Pin, white/Red & Yellow trim, gold hooks
and EX which sold for $420. A Musky Dinger in silver flash and EX
reached $373.89. An EX Fintail Shiner in silver shiner color and metal
tail brought $370. A Surface Dingbat with Western Auto Sable paint and
EX sold for $491. An EX Polly Wiggle, W/RH reached $380. An EX Sucker
in an EX- box brought $879.50.
Miscellaneous maker lures included a
Harkauf 5 hook minnow, VG in brown color which sold for $359.09. A
Bite-Em Bait Wiggler, gold/white & red and EX in a G picture box
reached $300. A Vaughn Lure, white/red & green stripe and EX brought
$200. A Donaly Wow, green/yellow ribs that was EX in an EX box/papers
sold for $911.99. A rare Manistee Minnow in G with flaking white
color/gold trim brought $869.98.An unusual Dilley's Pork & Frog, EX
condition in frog color, sold for $809. A Darby Spring loaded Weedless
Lure, green with red & white head and Mint brought $627.77. A set of
four Bakelite Lauffer's Scientific Fishing Lures, NIB and you assemble
them, but pretty cool, sold for $406.08.
An EX Pflueger Neverfail 3
hook minnow in green crackleback and in a G-VG wooden box brought
$899, while a VG example in frog spot reached $188.50 w/o a box. A
Wizard Minnow, silver/black back, VG in a VG wooden box reached
$1121.77. A
South Bend Tarp Oreno, W/RH and Mint in an EX box sold for $462. A
Truck Oreno in frog spot and VG brought $1450. A Shakespeare
Revolution, yellow/gold spots and VG sold for $406.
Among the many Heddon lures was a Punkinseed #730 in rainbow color
that was EX in the box and sold for $4839.89. An EX in box #740
Punkinseed in Red scale brought $3398.67, and a
#730 XRS (white/black
ribs), also EX in box reached $1336. A plastic Crazy Crawler, white/RH
and EX, but with a Westinghouse logo on it, sold for $406.11. One of
those plastic #9120 crawdad color Crawlers that used to bring
$1750-$2000 sold for $920. A VG-EX red & white Luny Frog brought $599.
All this was topped by a Dowagiac Underwater with external belly
weight. It was white and VG condition - and sold for $13,659.50. Take
a look to the left to see if you have one hanging in your garage. A
River Runt #119PL, wood/GE, white and EX/EX box sold for $261.55. A
Tadpolly, green scale, and EX in a VG intro box brought $432. A nifty
yellow colored Vamp #7500 and EX sold for $809. A Widget, NIB in
bullfrog topped out at $500. A beautiful Heddon 402 minnow, white/blue
forehead and EX brought $921.06. An to finish them off, a Hi-Tail in
Budweiser paint, Mint in Box, reached $779.69.
Rods:
Bamboo fly rods included a F. E. Thomas Dirigo fly rod, 8'6", 3/2,
EX, $610. A Walton Powell, 9', 2/1, 6 wt in EX sold for $830. A Mint
"Spring Brook" Shakespeare bamboo fly rod 9', 3/2, reached $256.08. A
Gene Edwards Deluxe #53, 8', 3/2 and EX sold for $392.75. An
impregnated H-I "Registered" model, 8'6", 3/2 and mint brought
$286.85. A Marshall Field (Heddon?) #35, 7', 2/2, and VG sold for
$968.78. An E. C. Powell "semi hollow" rod, 9'6", 3/2, EX brought
$798. An E. F. Payne M205, 8'6", 3/2 and EX ended at $1975.
Chicago Gentleman Streamliner rod and reel combination, EX,
$150.
A Walton Powell Bamboo spinning rod, 7', 2/1 and EX sold for
$260.98.
Casting rods included a fiberglass Johnson/Phillipson #800,
6', 2/1, light action, Mint in bag which brought $1427. A Winchester
tubular steel 4 pc #5425 in VG with a poor bag sold for $133.55. A
Phillipson Royal 5'6" fiberglass rod in VG sold for $578.
Miscellaneous Fishing Stuff:
A nice brown glass
flask with silver overlay of a fishing scene, all in EX condition,
brought $341.69. It is shown to the right. A Musky match safe in VG
sold for $122.51.
"The Sportsman" wooden tackle box from Florida in
VG sold for $324, while a Knickerbocker leather tackle box in VG
reached $300. A B.F. Meek & Sons lunchbox style tackle box with no
trays and VG topped out at $174.52. A nice pot belly creel with flat
wicker and a wooden top received 24 bids before selling for $338.
A
Johnson Outboard Motor pinback button from 1954 in VG sold for $72.23.
A Chris Craft folding wooden boat ladder in VG reached $308.44. A Koon
Kreek split shot tin in EX condition brought $123.65. A rare round
split shot tin from Chidsey & Green with "Buck" the dog on the celo
top, but only G condition reached $119.50.
A Montague Automatic
Casting Float that was mint in box closed out at $200. Those things
must not have worked very well, since they seem to be fairly common in
mint in box condition.
A Shakespeare 1932 catalog in EX reached
$86.75, while a Bronson Gold Seal catalog from the 1930s and EX sold
for $66.10. A pair of rare catalogs - 1892 Chubb and 1905 Abbey &
Imbrie, which were in G condition brought $442.77. A Hardy Angler's
Guide from 1909 in G-VG condition reached $850. A 1925 Edward Vom Hofe
catalog in EX soared to $510. An 1890 Henry Squires sporting goods
hard bound catalog in only G sold for $156. A very Fine copy of Dick
Spurr's Classic Bamboo Fly Rod Makers brought $117.51. A Rushton
Rowboats & Canoes 1902 catalog in VG- reached $247.51.
A VG brass spring
loaded fish spear and/or gaff topped out at $113.48. This formidable
looking appliance is shown to the left.
A tin sign Penn Reel
Thermometer with a blue marlin illustration and VG sold for $220.27. A
South Bend "Fish & Feel Fit" store display in VG+ brought $540.02. A
New York state tin Trout Fishing sign in EX sold for $122.51.
