eBay Report - January 2008
There was a lot of great stuff to spend your money on this month.
Miscellaneous Fishing Stuff:
Spinning reel collectors, Mitchell collectors, and advertising
collectors had a nice
opportunity
when this electric sign from the 1950's was offered. It is 11" in
diameter and received 25 bids before topping out at $660.13. 25 Mustad
sample hook cards in VG sold for $487. A South Bend/Hibbard, Spencer &
Bartlett cardboard sign c1916, in VG sold for $280.56. A salesman's
sample case of Ideal Bobbers in EX condition brought $998.88.
A nice lot of 5 casting medals and a belt buckle in an engraved
award box brought $190.50. A silver Loch Leven fob or medal from 1937
and VG reached $123.59. A gold Tuna Club pin, with blue enamel and EX
brought $611.
A 1957 Harnell rod catalog in EX sold for $133.59. A 48 page 1908
Ohio Fish & Game Law booklet in EX brought $202.50. As seems usual on
eBay, a really big sale brings similar items out of the woodwork. A VG
Hardy Bros. Angling Specialties catalog sold for $3078.35. Then a 1924
Hardy Angler's Guide that was EX in mailer reached $775; and a 1921 in
VG topped out at $303.99.
A shadowbox with 45 flies by noted Montana fly tier Al Troth sold
for $1050. It was in EX condition and was number 20 of 25. A Blackhawk
sucker colored fish decoy, NIB,
brought $134.36. A
Caille Bros. 1915 outboard motor, running and in original condition,
reached $1130. An Edward Vom Hofe gaff in EX got 20 bids and sold for
$466.30. It is shown to the left. A 7x9 inch, hand tinted, framed
photo of a woman fisherman, reached $159.50.
Reels:
A VG Pflueger Faultless 80 yd sandwiched HR/aluminum, with Bulldog
logo, started
off the
month by selling for $327. It is shown here. A German silver NLW Schmeltzer's Blue Eye casting reel in VG
reached $456.51. A Julius Vom Hofe multiplier for Abbey & Imbrie in
VG+ brought $426.51.
A True Temper Reelrod (combo) in VG and still with the rod reached
$102.50.
A tiny 1¾ x 1¾ ball handle reel in VG that was
nickel plated brass seemed a real steal at $165.50.
Salt Water reels of interest included a Julius Vom Hofe hard rubber
and GS model in VG, including a Rabbeth drag handle, that brought
$1050. A Penn Senator #116 in 12/0 size that was EX in a VG box sold
for $265. A scarce Rochester Ocean King 300 yd GS reel in VG brought
$405.
Newer casting reels included an ABU Ambassadeur 1500C, EX in a VG
box with papers, etc which sold for $377. An Ambassadeur 5000 Deluxe,
black and gold, and Mint in a teak box reached $896.57. In another
version of the popular Bronson reel, a Wards Hawthorne #60-6316 level
wind Mint in an EX box brought a whopping $531.70. It appears to the
left. A copper
colored Pflueger Supreme (2800?) in VG brought $876.25, and then a
2600 model that was EX in a VG box soared all the way to $1825.
Another 2800DF that was new in an EX box reached $1544. A Shimano
Bantam 100, Mint in an EX box with papers sold for $233.49.
There were some uncommon fly reels this month, including an 80 yd Cozzone fly reel of GS and Bakelite in VG sold for $314. A
Pflueger Medalist #1492 with round line guide and metal latch cover in
VG in a VG- box with papers sold for $279.99. A Val-Craft Valentine
#350 in EX reached $189.50, and a Shakespeare Purist #1898, Mdl EC
that was EX in a marked leather case brought $232.50.
Lures:
A real wowser this
month was the Bauman's Minnow Cage shown here. As you can see it was
Mint in a VG box. It sold for $7,600. A red K&K Ghost in VG brought
1136.99. A Paulson's Combination Minnow, yellow/green back, that was
NIB topped out at $1632.39. A Pontiac Radium 5 hook Minnow, tan/green
back and VG reached $760.37. A white Payne's Woggle Bug in VG sold for
$365.45. A VG box only for a Clewell Snakerbait sold for $737. A
Reynolds Tempter, white/brown & sparkle back that was VG in a poor box
sold for $358.33.
A clear green Doug English Bingo Shorty Shrimp in EX- received 31
bids and sold for $355. These Texas coast lures are sure hot now. Also
a Florida Super Strike Shrimp, an articulated celluloid bait in VG
brought $360. A Bingo sample lure ring with 57 different lures and a
color chart in EX sold for $910.
Major company lures of interest included a Heddon #177 Heavy
Casting Minnow, white/red blush, in EX that brought $828.88. A Heddon
Giant Runt #7512, White/red eyes & tail, and EX in a G box reached
$621. A Basser in green crackleback and EX in a poor down bass box
sold for $810. A South Bend Fish Oreno, yellow/red & black spots, and
EX in an EX box sold for $255.05. An 8" SB Tarpon Special #978 in
Mullet Scale and Mint in an EX box brought $497.99.
A CCBC #800 Wagtail in EX- and yellow sold for $1625. A CCBC
special order 7¾" Chautauqua Special pike
color and poor condition brought $344. A Beetle #3853, orange/black
spots and EX in an EX- box reached $306. A Pflueger Neverfail #3105,
Natural frog scale, EX in an EX- box sold for $460.01, and an Electric
Monarch Minnow, white/red nose and VG brought $202.50. . A
Shakespeare Slim Jim #43 RWJ, VG in a VG grey box, yellow with red
back & ribs, sold for $316.11.
Plastic lures included a W/RH Bug-n-Bass in VG that sold for $400.
A Heddon Chugger Spook in yellow wing blackbird color and EX- brought
$740. A Heddon salesman's ring of Chugger Jrs. and Baby Torpedoes made
up of 33 lures and EX in a carrying case brought $836. A Heddon Sonic
#385 in Purina Dog Chow checkerboard and EX reached $543.97. A nice early
Cisco Kid in yellow, EX in a VG box sold for $248.65.
A novelty lure that I really liked was a DeKalb corn cob lure made
by Arbogast and
mint in
an EX box. It sold for $230. An EX Myoptic Minnow with glasses,
white/glitter brought $307.77. Another one that probably wasn't meant
to be a novelty was a Davis Lectro Lure that was VG in a VG box, and
sold for $1412.59. It was from 1931, and is shown to the left.
An E. Harran & Son metal bait c1880's and VG sold for $210.38. Not
as old, but of interest was a Winchester #9612 Fluted spoonbait that
was EX in a VG box. It brought $698.88.
Rods:
Bamboo fly rods of interest included an 8' Leonard, 2/2 and EX for
$1225, but then a Leonard 8', 3/2 for a 4 wt. line in EX brought
$2026. A Weber "Initiator", 9', 3/2 and VG sold for $125. A 10'
Gillium, 3/2 and VG reached $1001. A Winchester Armax fly rod #7255,
9', 3/2 and VG sold for $300. A Montague Manitou dry fly rod, 10'6",
4/2 and VG+ finished at $153.50. A Montague Sylph, 2/2, 7'6" and EX
brought $372.50. A Horrocks-Ibbotson Goldenrod with checkered walnut
grip - 9', 3/2 and EX - sold for $210.99. A South Bend #753, 8'6", 3/2
and VG reached $162.50
An antique 11' Leonard, 2/2, rattan grip with spike ferrules, and a
badly bubbled finish o/w VG reached $1525.
A Wm. Shakespeare Jr. #2153 bamboo casting rod from 1917, 5'6", 2/2
and EX sold for $242.50.
A Browning Silaflex 8'6" fiberglass fly rod, 2/1 and Mint sold for
$302.
A Shakespeare Graflite 5'8" casting rod in new condition and medium
action sold for $184.50. A Herter's fiberglass casting rod, 6'2", 2/2
and EX reached $161.60. A Fenwick #2049 4'9" Super Light fiberglass
casting rod in EX sold for $493. A Fenwick Lunkerstik, 5'6" and EX
brought $709.
An EX St. Croix Magnaflex Travel Rod, combination spinning or
casting, 6 to 7 foot depending upon sections used, and in an EX
leather case, brought $200.66.
