eBay Report - July 2005
A bass turns into a Salmon, a tin lunch basket sells for $207.50,
and a $430 lure wears glasses. It must have been the full moon.
Lures:
Heddon Lures
included a Zaragossa, EX in an EX box and a rare orange with black
spots color, which sold for $1825. It is pictured to the right. An 8"
#7600 Musky Vamp in Frog Spot that was in EX condition brought $4805.
A Mutiple Minnow c1908, in nickel finish and EX reached $364.99. An
"O" Minnow in Frog Spot color and EX sold for $501. A wooden
Midget Digit in green scale and EX brought a whopping $660.
Newer baits
included some Heddon plastic baits of interest - a Lucky 13 spook
#2500, which sold for $330. It was green scale shad and EX. A Magnum
Torpedo, white/red head & flitter and EX sold for $910. A bluegill
River Runt #9010 in EX brought $355. A Dealer
Display chain of 20 Bagley Honey Bee's in Mint sold for $338.88. A
Plastic lipped Jitterbug in green scale and VG condition sold for
$179.55. A Castaic Baby Largemouth Bass that was NIB brought $172.50.
Salmon plugs included a Lucky Louie Shovelnose, blue back, that was
mint in an EX box. It sold for $204.49. Another in squid color and the
same condition brought $190.59.
A South Bend Musky Minnow #956,
green crackleback, and VG topped out at $920.55. An EX 5 hook minnow
in bar perch sold for $312.77.
A VG Creek Chub Bull
Pup fly rod lure in a VG box topped out at $566.99. A Fly Rod Froggie,
frog color and EX sold for $315. Later in the month a Froggie box only
in EX condition brought $2025. WOWSER! A #109 Wiggler that was
greenback and mint in a VG box reached $817. A Giant Jointed Pikie
that was pearl/pink spots and mint in an EX box drew 23 bids before
selling for $570.88. A Tiny Tim in frog spot, EX in an EX box sold for
$538.
Among the
miscellaneous lures was a very nice Paw Paw Bullhead in brown stripe.
It was VG+ in a VG Box, and sold for $381. A Michigan Life Like
Minnow, VG-, yellow/green back brought $835. An unusual Myoptic Minnow
that was yellow splatter color and EX condition sold for $430.67. It
is pictured to the left. A Pontiac Radium Minnow that was EX in a G
wooden box, yellow/green back brought $5000. A Miller's Reversible
Minnow, white with red and green spots and EX reached $4500. A
Donaly Red Fin Floater, black/gold ribs and VG brought $305, while a
VG scarce Redfin Weedless Bait in while reached $1237.12. A Vaughn's
Lure, mint in an EX box and yellow color sold for $504.99. A
Winchester Multi-Wobbler #9201 that was EX- in a VG box/papers brought
$530. A no-eye Clarks Water Scout, EX in rainbow color sold for $297.
A green & white Charmer Minnow in VG brought $585. The wowser of
the month was a Florida Artificial Bait Co. Superstrike Crayfish lure.
This celluloid bait, which was EX in a VG box drew 23 bids before
selling for $5520.
An EX J. T. Buel
Fly Spoon that was labeled "Empire City" was offered in a VG Buel
cardboard box. It topped out at $1313.
Miscellaneous Fishing Stuff:
There were some
nice fish decoys this month, including an Oscar Peterson 7" perch in
VG that received 21 bids before selling for $999.99. (Now why would
the 2nd place bidder have stopped just under $1000, and put 99¢
on the end?). The decoy is shown here. An Isaac Goulette 6"
perch from Lake St. Clair, in VG, brought $431.
Paper goods included
a J. A. Coxe (Bronson) catalog from 1937 that was EX in its mailer,
which reached $202.50. Fred Buller's British book, Doomsday Book of
Mammoth Pike, Fine in a Fine dust jacket topped out at $407.28. A
copy of the book, The Mitchell Story in VF condition brought
$167.50. A 1925 Outing standup counter sign, with the rod, reel and
lure that was shown in the sign brought $869.99. It was VG and all
framed together. Several lots of Bassmaster magazine were sold in
original binders. Four issues (the full year) from 1968 in EX reached
$400. The year 1970 brought $286.56. I guess it's time to get out in
my storage room again...
The metal "Salmon" fish
sign shown to the left was 31" long and three dimensional. It was VG
and sold for $426. It looks like a strange salmon to me, but you can
make up your own mind. I'd vote for a LM Bass. A Connecticut Deputy
Warden fish & game badge in VG sold for $1130. A Tyee Club silver pin
in VG brought $130.
A Joy glass minnow trap that was EX in a G
cardboard box reached $484.69. A hand crank powered trolling motor
called the Man-U-Troll brought $102.50. Another one sold later for
$308.99. An usual wicker type center hole creel in VG reached $183.37,
and a nice leather and split willow salmon creel from Scotland brought
$990.
A 1940's Sportster lunch basket made of tin with 2 thermos bottles
sold for $207.50. A J. A. Coxe dealer carton of reel oil, with 6
bottles and VG topped out at $122.50. A Shakespeare Huffman saddle
palming plate in VG brought $98.
Reels:
An unusual wooden
reel from England, a Milward's Frogback Nottingham style in VG brought
$354.16. It is pictured to the right. A rare Meisselbach Deep Sea Reel
in VG snuck buy many buyers and sold for $246.13. An Ambassadeur 900
salt water reel with 2 speeds that was EX in an EX box with papers,
etc. sold for $360. An Endicott Wilson big game reel, size 4/0 and VG
reached $303.76. A Los Angeles J.A. Coxe 9/0 big game trolling reel in
VG reached $675.
Kentucky style reels included a Talbot Premier #3
in VG, which sold for $1225. A VG Thos E. Wilson (Montague generic)
labeled L. B. Icely sold for $418. I guess these generic sporting
goods and hardware company reels are on the rise, or someone made an
expensive mistake.
One of the more interesting fly reels was an Otto
Zwarg #400 6/0 fly reel that was mint in box. It topped out at $4050,
even though the seller described it as a "Spinning reel".
A Thompson #500 in VG. It sold for $201.50. A Thos. J. Conroy raised
pillar salmon reel of German silver and hard rubber and VG in a
leather case reached $1302.77. A Montague "Neversink" German silver
and rubber 100 yard trout reel in VG brought $504. The month ended
with the selling of a much in demand B. F. Meek & Sons #44 Fly Reel.
This German Silver beauty sold for $5,700.
19th Century products
included beauty of a Bi-Metal casting reel of brass and aluminum,
thought to be by F. Malleson. It was 2" in diameter and EX condition
and sold for $2764 after spirited bidding. It is shown to the right. A
Silas Terry brass NY style ball handle reel in VG condition. It sold
for $313. An unusual looking and unmarked brass reel in VG condition
brought $281.09. A 60 yd Hawks & Olgivy NY ball handle in VG sold for
$418.08. A Hendryx 60 yd brass multiplier with rope decorations and VG
brought $305.
Newer reels included a Shimano Bantam 100EX (blue color)
that was NIB and sold for $205.83.
An Eppinger 15N Notangle casting
reel in EX sold for $330.52. Another of those wild looking Aerocast
level wind reels, brought a big price as it sold for $152.50.
Rods:
The top rod of the
month was a Payne 7'1" parabolic fly rod, 2/2 with Abercrombie & Fitch
labels and EX. It sold for $7250, and is shown to the right. A Hardy
Fairchild 8' bamboo fly rod, 3/2 and mint condition sold for $1000. A
Hawes 9' fly rod with Abercrombie & Fitch label, 3/3 and VG, brought
$1050. An Orvis Battenkill, 7'6", 2/2, 6 wt and EX sold for $536.51. A
Phillipson Premium 9', 3/2 and EX reached $356.95. A Wright & McGill
Granger Special, 3/2, 9' and mint brought $456.50. A Heddon #10, 7'6",
2/2 and mint sold for $457.99 and a #50 Deluxe President 8'6", 3/2 and
VG brought $485.
Fiberglass rods included a Harnell M630 steelhead
or salmon rod, 9', 2/2 and VG which brought $280.25. Harnell must not
be a familiar name to the Japanese for a #422 6' casting rod with
Featherweight handle and EX only reached $103.51. They do love those
yellow Fenwicks and Featherweight Champion handles, as a CA624 blank
with while pistold grip in VG brought $599. An unusual Arjon Partner
hexagonal casting rod, 2/1 and 5'9" and EX sold for $119.
A 6'6"
Tycoon big game rod of 4 sided bamboo and EX sold for $235.61.
