eBay Report - March 2003

March seemed to be a good month for the buyers.

Miscellaneous Items:

Tackle boxes seemed to be popular this month. We had a Meek Tackle box with some tackle in it in G-VG condition that brought $266. An Abercrombie and Fitch mahogany box in EX received 25 bids and sold for $676.66. And a Sears Ted Williams tackle box #3465 from 1964, full of decent tackle reached $306.

A triangular shaped green glass minnow trap that was in EX condition brought $392.77. It is shown here. Then you could keep your minnows in a c1900 Novelty Minnow Float, submarine style minnow bucket in faded condition reached $172.50.

A Philip R. Goodwin calendar complete in VG-EX condition, with a nice fishing scene reached $112.50. A c1920-31 casting medal from the San Francisco Fly Casting Club came up. It was neat - with a medallion on top and bars for each club event won, and 14K gold. This item had a starting bid of $850, and that's where it started and finished with one bid. Another award pin that received lots of attention was a Field and Stream Honor Badge for a 152 pound Tarpon. It was bid to $182.49.

A Shakespeare reel repair kit in a metal box, and with lots of parts still in it brought $238.00. It was in VG condition.

Rods:

Top quality bamboo rods are still either not selling, or are in the $1000-2000 range, so we'll bottom feed this month. Those Action Rods are still doing OK, with one with a grey & pink handle in EX shape bringing $162.50. Another similar rod only reached $102.50, and I couldn't help but wonder if it was due to the fact that the seller's photos took so long to load that I grew tired of waiting. Another one with a red and white grip, with a color coordinated Ocean City LW reel reached $202.50.

A Jim Heddon Favorite bamboo casting rod, 6' long, and in unfished condition reached $333. A 2 piece 6.5' Fenwick Feralite fiberglass casting rod with a white Champion handle brought $452. It was VG+ condition. A pair of Fenwick Lunkerstik's 5.5' and unused condition sold a week apart. The first brought $302, and the second $303, so I guess you could say that was probably what they were worth. A Phillipson 2 piece fiberglass casting rod, light action and VG+ brought $390.50.

Lures:

There weren't a lot of high dollar lures this month, but there were plenty of neat unusual miscellaneous items. Some of them follow.

A neat Pflueger Ball Spinner that was 5" long and in VG condition reached $1338.00. It is shown here.

An EX black plastic Musky Cisco Kid in a VG box brought $125.38. A Saleman's sample board for Glen Evans Burpers and Undertakers came up. It was in G condition, and had 9 lures still in it. This rare piece reached $350.

A Creek Chub Pikie #709, that was EX in box with papers brought $2125 after 21 bids. A CCBC Skipper in Strawberry color and with glass eyes, and unused condition reached $405. A Triple jointed CCBC plastic Pikie Minnow which was yellow/glitter and EX, reached $102.51. A mint in Box Jointed Pike, yellow/R&B spots and GE, sold for $361. A couple of dealer boxes came up. One of the common old style boxes in VG-EX condition brought $255, but a newer but rarer box that was only G-VG reached $379.99.

A Heddon Salmon River Runt in the scarce 1st issue and in EX condition in a VG box reached $2200.75. A Heddon Musky (5") SOS, in pike scale and VG-EX sold for $737.27. A Heddon Hi-Tail with a black & white checkerboard paint job and EX sold for $325.

An unusual Frog lure that was in EX condition, and had glass eyes sold for $1125.00 it is shown here.  Another folk art lure that was sort of minnow shaped and in G-VG condition reached $500.

A Zink Screwtail that was Black and White color and mint in the box reached $205.50. A Floyd Roman Little Nike striper lure, EX in box, reached $250.

A couple of rare color Bug N Bass lures sold, a pearl white "Albino" colored one brought $865.55, and a solid black one reached $224.72.

Reels:

The big news in reels this month was the first model Pflueger Akron which brought $2994.43. This is a German silver Kentucky style reel, not the common level wind baitcaster that we are all familiar with. It was in VG-EX condition, and is shown here. A German silver Pflueger Worth, 60 yd, EX with leather case reached $362.50. A Pflueger Hawkeye fly reel, GS and Hard rubber in the 80 yd size and EX reached $471. A little 40 yd Pflueger Capitol baitcaster in VG-EX reached $231.36.

Some other casting reels included a German silver Meisselbach Tripart 780 in VG at $483.10; A Talbot 33 by Richardson at $1200, and the same reel only generic brought $800. Both were VG-EX. A Talbot Niangua from KC and VG sold for $455. A B.C. Milam #3 that had been awarded as a prize in an Australian fishing contest brought $1026. It was VG condition, except for a replaced crank knob. a Brass Meek & Milam #3 from the 1850's reached $1802. A Wards Hawthorne (Bronson) casting reel probably set a record for Ward's reels when it reached $416. It was VG-EX. An Ocean City #2000 casting reel, mint in box, brought $94.60. A Heddon 3-24 casting reel in EX reached $1325.00.

A hard rubber version of the Yawman & Erbe automatic fly reel in VG condition brought $270.99. A Leonard Mills 1927 Trout size Dry Fly reel in hard rubber, aluminum, and German silver and in VG+ condition received 22 bids before selling for $1375.

Unusual Target spinning reel from Michigan that was Mint in box with instructions sold for $205.50. A french Doperr Spinning reel in VG-EX, with art deco design, brought $565. And an experimental Schulz pop up spinning reel in EX reached $159.15. A production Schulz spincaster reached $122.

Salt Water reels seemed scarce, but an unusual reel, The Wolf, German silver and hard rubber, called a vom Hofe style reached $1080 after 16 bids.
