Ebay Report - March 2004

Miscellaneous Stuff:

The standout miscellaneous item this month seemed to me to be a really nice Marbles fish knife with its original sheath. This knife had the early MSA markings, a wooden handle with decoration, and was all in VG-EX condition. These knives are rare in any condition, but with a very nice original sheath it reached $1074.55. It is shown here.

There were some really nifty fish decoys again this month, led by a 7" Perch decoy by the master Oscar Peterson. This decoy, in fine condition and pictured here, reached $1777.77. Also doing well was a Tullibee Cisco decoy by John Jenson, which sold for $439. A 15" long and 8" wide hand forged spear with 11 tines with barbs reached $152.50.

A mahogany and brass big game fishing chair in EX condition topped out at $350. A NY state hunting/trapping license pin back in VG reached $260.55. A Shakespeare Reel oil display carton with 6 bottles of oil and in VG brought $265.01. An EX Hawco glass minnow trap in a VG wooden box topped out at $263.87. A Hardy "Compactum" fly and lure box in black Japanned finish and EX received 31 bids before selling for $300.

Catalogs and books of interest included a 1911 Milwards (English) catalog in VG condition for $405. An undated Cozzone Reel Catalog in VG-EX sold for $154.49. A set of Hardy catalogs, suppliments and pamphlets all in the original envelope sold for $198.23. A 1948 Creek Chub Bait Co catalog, mint in the envelope sold for $154.05. A 3rd Edition (1855) copy of Frank Forrester's Fish and Fishing of the U.S., with leather binding and in VG condition sold for $155.

There was a large amount of neat tournament casting items, all from one estate. One lot of 6 1950's medals + 2 patches brought $201.49; 4 sterling trophies from 1940s Ontario, Canada fly and baitcasting tournaments sold for $587. A nice one from this lot is shown here. Another lot of 4 trophies sold for $985.01, and a 1930's plaque with winners inscribed brought $366.

Two Field & Stream badges for Permit, one gold and one bronze, sold for $400. A Bluegill or Bream badge in bronze and EX sold for $330.

A Split oak woven fish basket-minnow trap in VG reached $260. A nice leather fly wallet in EX condition received 24 bids before selling for $178.27. A Winchester round split shot tin in EX sold for $262. A 10" bobber with a line winder in EX brought $261.66. An unmarked pewter flask in the shape of a fish and in EX condition sold for $271. A nice early Lucas Floating rectangular Minnow Bucket in EX condition received 25 bids before selling for $425.

Reels:

An Abu Ambassadeur 4 screw 5000C, black with a silver spool and with the case, parts and oil, and all EX sold for $281. An Ambassadeur 5001 (left hand) that was new in the box reached $423. And a rare blue Ambassadeur 5000 and in EX condition sold for $2000. A South Bend 1250 level wind reel in stainless steel that was NIB with papers brought $154.49. A really nice outfit with cross over collectibility was a Ted Williams (Sears) baitcasting reel in a soft case and a Ted Williams spool of line. All were in EX condition and brought $252.39. It is shown to the right. A Shakesp[eare President #1980, EX in the box with accessories, sold for $151.50.

A Herters W. German (DAM) Spin Cast reel, EX in box with papers topped out at $238.50. It is shown to the right. A green Penn salt water spinning reel #706 in VG condition sold for $200. An Allcock Duplex spinning reel in the box and VG condition sold for $255. A Worden Jet Spin belly reel in EX brought $127.99.

The sought after Edward vom Hofe Peerless Fly Reel #355 in a size 3 sold for $3227.83. This reel was found in an old house, and was in VG original condition. An EVH #423 4/0 Salmon fly reel with leather case and in VG condition brought $1399.99. A 4" Leonard hard rubber and German silver fly reel by Julius vom Hofe in an EX leather case by brother Edward vom Hofe sold for $1525. A Julius vom Hofe #3 hard rubber and German silver fly reel in VG brought $1030. Another sought after fly reel was a Hardy St. George Jr, 2-9/16" and EX reached $662. A Hardy Uniqua in the scarce 2-5/8" size and VG brought $283.59. A Hardy Silex #2 Silent Wind in the 4" size and in VG condition sold for $995. A #3 Fin-Nor "Wedding Cake" model fly reel in EX sold for $870. An Orvis 1874 fly reel in the wooden box, all in VG condition, brought $1136.11. A nifty c1860 brass fly reel with a folding handle reached $643. It was a 4" salmon sized reel and in VG condition. You can see it to the right.

A Loomis, Plumb & Co. Automatic Fly Reel in brass and VG brought $1008. A relatively new Yawman & Erbe Key Wind automatic in EX reached $305 (I guess I'll have to change my Y&E price guide). A Silas Terry fly reel, nickel plated brass, with half-handle sold for $283.89.  A B.C. Milam #3 in brass and German silver, with half handle and ivory grasp, and EX condition reached $1500. A brass ball handle Peck & Snyder reel sold for $400.

A 10/0 Penn Senator in VG condition sold for $370.50. A Meisselbach Surf reel with dial free spool and serial #480, VG-EX brought $231.50. A Julius vom Hofe B Ocean in 9/0 size and VG condition sold for $431. A California J. A. Coxe 6/0 reel that was VG sold for $1481.

There were lots of interesting reels from Enterprise (Pflueger). An EX Portage Topic in an EX maroon box brought $157.50. An early Pflueger Akron, EX in an EX maroon box brought $325. It is shown to the left. A Pflueger Medalist 1494 from 1937, EX in a VG+ box topped out at $432.56. A left handed Pflueger Summit that was NIB from 1951 reached $405. A Pflueger Hawkeye fly reel in VG condition sold for $383.85. A Pflueger Autopla that was NIB with the papers and the original hang tag sold for $237.50. A Pflueger Kihoga 450 yard, hard rubber and German silver reel showed how scarce they are when it sold for $545.51 even though the seller stated "it does need a set of gears".

 

Lures:

It seemed to me that there were quite a few lures this month that did not reach the reserve. Let's hope that lures weren't gobbled up by speculators these past few years who hoped to make a killing. Quality bamboo rods have been inflicted with this problem for several years now. 

There were some very nice Heddon lures this month. 24 bidders vied for a Goldfish scale 150 Underwater Minnow. It was in EX- condition, and rigged with toilet seat hardware and sold for $1525.01, and is shown here.  Another 150, Green crackleback in a faded wooden box, with good papers, reached $1200.99. A #980 Fly Rod Punkie in red head, with white and glitter, and in EX sold for $1000. A VG box only for the Wilder Dilg fly rod bait in Zane Grey pattern brought $394. A Fly Rod Flaptail in the box came up. It was Red & White and in EX and reached $415.50. A Heddon Musky Surfusser #300, EX and Green Crackleback sold for $362.A Heddon Flaptail Jr in the nifty Chipmunk finish and EX sold for 787.77. A Baby Crab Wiggler in Gold? and in VG-EX condition sold for $1009.99. A Sonic, black & white stripes sold for $338, and a Tadpolly Spook with a Westinghouse logo that was EX in the box with papers sold for $230.

Creek Chub lures of interest included a Jointed Striper Pikie in Goldfish that was EX and reached $364.50. An EX in VG box Flip Flap in frog spot color brought $372. A white Crawdad in the intro box #402, with papers and VG/G reached $409. An EX CCBC Wiggler with metal tail and in a beautiful red and gold scale finish brought $275. It is shown to the left. A CCBC Cradad in frog spot and EX with the original legs topped out at $775. A plastic 700 Pikie in Mackeral finish, NIB, reached $282, and a 7000 in Rainbow Fire that was in EX condition sold for $255.35.

A Pfeiffer Glass Minnow Tube lure, 4.5" and EX sold for $575. A first model Eger Florida Special that was EX brought $800. A green Manitou Minnow that was VG+ topped out at $1000. A c1905 Bing's Weedless Nemahbin Minnow in silver sold for $807.50. A Winchester Multi-Wobbler in green crackle back #9205, and EX condition, sold for $442. An EX Wilson Winged Wobbler in an EX box in white color sold for $967.77. Three near mint Bomber Jerk Lures sold for $626.26. A Rainbow Chippewa, 4" and VG, topped at $433.99. A Biff Go Devil that was EX in a VG box with papers, Red & White color, reached $244.01. An Arbogast Sunfish, large size and EX sold for $281.76, while a pair of the small Sunfish in EX brought $225.50. A VG+ Keeling Expert in yellow with a green back brought $731. An early and rare Clark's Jointed Bait in natural wood finish and EX reached $461.69.A Hungry Jack Minnow, EX-, scale finish sold for 559.99. A Masterlure by Gamefish lures, new in a VG box, and blue scale finish sold for $905. An Immell Chippewa, 5" size, VG in a blended green color reached $611.07. And finally to end the nice miscellaneous lures, a Moonlight Pikaroon, white with RH, and EX sold for $237.50.

A South Bend 5 hook minnow that was a red crackleback and in VG condition sold for $432.74. A dozen mint in boxes SB Deerhair Frogs #848F came up in one lot. They sold for $560. And a fly rod Bug Oreno that was mint in a red color brought $407.51.

A Pflueger All in One Minnow, VG in rainbow color sold for $250.

Rods:

A Conlon 2 piece fiberglass spinning rod in EX condition sold for $255. A Fenwick FC 38, 6' fiberglass rod for 3/8 oz lures and in EX sold for $511, and a Lunkerstik 2000, 5'6", 2 pc. rod, in EX brought $460.

An Orvis Battenkill fly rod that was 8', 3/2, and formerly owned by A. L. Ripley (a wonderful water color painter of fishing and hunting scenes) that was in VG condition sold for $432.86. A Hardy Palakona, CC deFrance, 8', 2/1 and EX brought $525. A Thomas & Thomas Paradigm, 7'6", 3/2 and EX condition brought $3000. An EX Winston 7', 3/2 for a 3 wt line reached $2000. A Wright & McGill Granger Favorite, 9', 3/2 and EX sold for $669. A tiny 6' Heddon fly rod made for Folsom Arms of NY, in mint restored condition sold for $780.
