eBay Report - November 2004
Lures:
Holy Moley! Two
Flying Helgramites in one month. The first one to come up was from an
eastern estate and as shown here was in EX condition. It was a
Comstock version and sold for $8757.50. Then a couple of weeks later
we had a second one. Almost the exact same description... this one was
also EX and brought $6800.
Another great miscellaneous
old bait was a Harris Floating Minnow. This 5 hooker was near Mint in
an EX box and sold for $3207.50. A Pfeiffer's Glass Minnow Tube in
bass size and EX topped out at $905. An EX Horrocks-Ibbotson Success
Surface Minnow in an EX box, yellow with gold spots, brought $535. An
Arbogast Sunfish in VG brought $202.50. A Winchester Multi Wobbler in
Rainbow and EX sold for $354. A Clinton Wilt Champion, VG and
orange/green stripe topped out at $1103.88. An EX Bite-Em-Bate in a VG
box/papers reached $651.11. It was gold with a white head. A Moonlight
Pollywog, yellow/black, that was EX in an EX box sold for $1152.99. A
six pack of Glen Evans Burpers with the lures mint, but only a fair
carton brought back memories as it reached $485.
Glen Evans was only a
short distance from where I sit and I once found a six pack like this
in a yard sale across the lake. I paid $10 for the lot. I later sold
it for $200 to a local collector. An unidentified 3 hook underwater
minnow that was EX in a VG unmarked wooden box brought $2800. I'm sure
the winner knew what he bought. It is shown to the left.
A Shakespeare 5 hook minnow in green
crackleback and EX brought $405. A Shakespeare Rhodes Mechanical Frog
in VG reached $271. A Shakespeare Punkinseed in yellow and VG-EX
brought $472.67. A Kazoo Minnow BOX ONLY in G-VG sold for $2125, and a
Punkin-Seed Minow BOX ONLY in G reached $4607.50.
Creek Chub Bait Company was represented by a
Baby Jigger, yellow with spots, in Mint condition that sold for $600.
A Pike scale Dingbat, Mint in an EX box, received 33 bids before
selling for $338.98. A 200 Wiggler in yellow with spots and EX brought
$437. A Pikie #710, white with a blue head and mint in an EX box sold
for $760. A Surfster #7437 in Yellow and EX in a VG Box reached $480.
Pflueger baits included a Neverfail 5 hook minnow #3169
that was EX in an EX box. It was strawberry spot and sold for $511.
A Heddon 1902 3rd
version of the Underwater Casting Bait that was EX sold for $4938.88.
It is shown to the right. A Multiple
Metal Minnow c1909 in EX condition sold for $709. A 200 in Frog, c1912 that was EX in a VG white box
reached $910. A plastic Chugger in a wild blue photo finish and EX
sold for $522.
A South Bend Surf Oreno that was EX in a VG box with
papers sold for $305. It was gold with a black back. A Babe Oreno in
Mullet Scale that was EX in a VG old style SB box sold for $535.00.
Rods:
An impregnated bamboo Orvis combination spinning and fly pack rod,
7', 4 pieces/2 tips, and in EX condition brought $585. An Orvis Rocky
Mountain 6'6", 3/2, fly rod that was Mint sold for $561.01. A W. E.
Edwards Quadrate #35, 8'6", 3/2 for a #6 line that had been refinished
to mint sold for $665. A Uslan 7', 2/1, 5 sided, impregnated bamboo
spinning rod reached $203.14. A Heddon #14, 8', 3/2, 6 wt in EX
brought $249.59. A Heddon Expert #125, 8'6", 3/2 and EX sold for $382.
A Hardy Palakona 8'9", 3/1, 7 wt. in Mint sold for $415. A Bristol
Model FB7 9' bamboo fly rod 3/2 and EX brought $177.50.
Fiberglass
rods included a Phillipson #105 casting rod, 6' light action in VG,
which reached $305.10. A Johnson-Phillipson #8.C 60 2 piece mint
casting rod sold for an astronomical $1135. Wow! Those pistol grip
Champion handles are still in demand - and EX purple one brought
$394.99 this month, and a mint white one sold for $640.
Salmon rods
included a Heddon #36 9'6", 3/2 fly rod with an extension butt in VG
that sold for $261.08.
Proving that the name is everything was a
"Winchester" #6101 9' fly rod, 3/2, with all sections different
lengths, refinished and amateurishly rewrapped which sold for $325.
Reels:
There seemed to be some bargains in Kentucky style casting reels
this month. Perhaps the market is saturated. However, there was one
dandy. A B. C. Milam and Son #8 salt water size reel that might have
been EX except for a filed foot, topped out at $6356.13. It is shown
to the right. A Meek & Milam #3 with
the foot shortened, o/w VG brought $711. A Horton Meek #3 free spool
tournament model, jeweled and EX reached $560.55.
Other casting reels included a Jack Welch LW model made of Aluminum
and German silver and EX condition that sold for $1000. A Langley 500A
Reelcast that was EX in an EX box sold for $182.50. A Wards Hawthorne
#60 (same as the Bronson Invader) in bronze color and EX sold for
$455. An early Meisselbach rod pillar 1903 model Take-Apart in EX
reached $310. A Wheeler & McGregor nickel plated reel that looked VG
seemed a bargain at $621.
Fly reels included an Edward Vom Hofe Model 800, #2 size in VG that
sold for $856.13. An EVH Restigouche Griswold salmon reel #496 in VG
brought $2330.An uncommon Saguenay/Zwarg salmon fly reel, 3-3/4" x
2-1/2" wide in EX brought $1009. A Julius Vom Hofe German silver
and hard rubber 1/0 trout reel with S handle and squared off raised
pillars in EX sold for $3156.87. A 60 yard Pflueger Gold West in EX
condition reached $481.09. A Valentine 350 Planetary gear fly reel
that was mint/extra spool and bag sold for $200. A Fin Nor #2 anti
reverse fly reel/extra spool and EX sold for $432.50.
New York style reels were led by a
small 2-3/8" brass ball handle marked "Alfred Woodham - Broadway, NY".
This reel was listed as "probably by Conroy" and was VG and sold for
$431.88. An Onion Haig & Cornwall brass ball handle in VG sold for
$475. It was reportedly 1-7/8" in diameter.
The Brits were
represented by a scarce Hardy 7" Fortuna single action SW reel that
was in VG condition. It brought $1749, and is shown here. A Hardy
Silex Major, 3-1/4" with ivory knobs and VG sold for $339. A
Hardy Jock Scott casting reel reached $1101.00.
Salt Water reels included an old Pflueger Par with Bulldog
trademark and Williams drag handle. It was VG and sold for $146.50.
Another nice Pflueger, a 9/0 Atlapac in VG, brought $467.99. One seller offered a pair of ABU Garcia reels, a 1000C 2 speed, as new
in a VG box and a 7000 in the same condition in separate sales. They
brought $333.54 each. A Mitchell labeled 1060 6/0 reel that was EX in
a wooden box with accessories sold for $430.27. A Fin-Nor Gold Regal trolling reel Model 30 that
was EX in a VG box/papers sold for $250. A Bronson Coxe No 4, 500 yd,
that was VG in a G box topped out at $304.36. a Julius Vom Hofe B
Ocean in 6/0 size with Thomas Conroy markings and VG sold for $479.99
Miscellaneous Fishing Stuff:
A George Lawrence
creel in EX with a matching harness, as shown here topped out at
$1604. An LL Bean canvas creel bag with leather trim in VG brought
$122.49. A Hardy telescoping gaff with wood handle and VG sold for
$313. And a Hardy Bros. folding line dryer in EX reached $294.67.
An Abercrombie & Fitch 1906 catalog in VG brought $118.07. An Edward
Vom Hofe catalog from 1923 in EX condition sold for $270, and a 1933
version in EX received 25 bids and reached $343. A 1937 Heddon catalog
in VG reached $167.50. A scarce A. L. Walker 4 page reel catalog in EX
sold for $127.50. Those Brits are crazy about their carp fishing - the
1950 book by BB, Confessions of a Carp Fisher, 1st Ed in VG sold for
$368. A lot of 135 fishing postcards in Average to EX condition
reached $275.
An interesting listing was an ACA 10k gold creel pin from 1962 in EX.
This tournament casting award brought $127.50, despite being listed as
an award for the American Crappie Association. A lot of 14 casting
medals from Texas State Fairs 1936-41 sold for $1745. They were listed
by the Texas Unclaimed Property Department and had been found in a
safe deposit box. A Michigan 1929 non
resident fishing license pinback in VG sold for $315, and a paper
Delaware Non-Resident fishing license in VG sold for $127.50. A Murta Appleton
celo top BB shot tin in VG sold for $77.99. A B.F. Meek & Sons
screwdriver/oiler in VG- reached $325 on the second try.
A 1930 Heddon die cut cardboard sign for the Lone Eagle reel, 8" x 15"
and EX reached $400. A Pflueger 18 x 17 inch counter display
"Aristocrats" in VG+ brought $455.
The 3 volume set of
books, The Fish Decoy by the Kimballs in hardback editions brought a
nifty $660. The 6" Muskellunge (?) Oscar Peterson fish decoy shown to
the left reached $1925. A Bud Stewart "papa duck" spearing decoy,
spotted and EX sold for $414.99. A Heddon spearing decoy in white/red
eye patches and VG topped out at $935.99.
