eBay Report - November 2005

Did the large number of quality tackle items sold at the Lang's auction this month reduce the amount of quality items for sale? Maybe.

Reels:

Salt Water reels included a Holzmann Tournament surf in VG, with a very unusual spool, that brought $1602. It is pictured to the right. Another Holzmann surf reel with mother of pearl inlays and in VG sold for $1000. A Pflueger Templar 450 yard size in EX with Williams Drag reached $410. A Pflueger Adams 6/0 in EX topped out at $798. A California J. A. Coxe 10/0 big game reel in VG sold for $638. An Edward Vom Hofe 560 Beach Haven surf casting reel in a small #1 size and EX- sold for $1194.

Kentucky style reels started off with a Talbot Eli from Nevada, MO that was EX and brought $845. A Heddon 3-24 in VG sold for $930. A Horton Meek #3 free spool Tournament Reel that was EX and Jeweled only brought $355.65. Other older multipliers included a Liberty Bell reel in 100 yd size and VG condition, which sold for $400. A Spiral Wind True Cast model that was EX in its leather pouch brought $131.60.

Fly reels of interest included an EX Leonard 3-3/4 x 1-3/4 inches in hard rubber and German silver that sold for $1136. A Hardy brass faced 2-5/8" Houghton Dry Fly Perfect, c1900 and in EX brought $1925. A Fin Nor #1 "wedding cake" reel given to noted jockey Jimmy Nichols when he appeared on a celebrity fishing show with Ted Williams and in VG condition sold for $1426. A Julius Vom Hofe hard rubber and nickel plated brass #4 size trout reel in EX- brought $363. A "Trowbridge, Boston" marked 100 yd revolving plate fly reel in EX reached $511. Toward the end of the month a Walker Salmon fly reel, 2/0 size and EX topped all in selling for $4403.

Rod and reel combo's included a very rare A.E. Hall and W.G. Smith Pat. reel on handle that worked like a Yankee screw driver. It was c1903 and in VG condition. Pictured to the left, it sold for $620. A Hurd Supercaster in case with a copy of its papers and EX brought $280. A Great Lakes Whirlaway did it again and topped out at $310.17. This was the Imperial #85 model and it was new in box.

Newer reels included an ABU Millennium Ltd. Edition 500 that was EX in Box and sold for $308.65. An ABU Garcia Record 2100 Sport that was EX in a VG+ box brought $257.44. A Shimano Calcutta Stogie, which was Mint in its wooden box sold for $300. A Lew's Speed Spool in the larger BB-2 size and New in Box reached $153.52.

Lures:

It was a good month for South Bend lures as one of the more interesting items was a 12 pack of Trout Orenos in EX condition. They came in 12 different colors and sold for $3749.99. An EX Feath-Oreno 12 pack box also came up for sale containing one lure and it reached $909.99. A Tarp Oreno, 10" and white/red head and VG brought 411.44. An EX early no eye Bass Oreno in a rare Mullet color topped out at $587.99.

A beautiful black and gold Jim Donaly Wow, EX in box/papers, sold for $1350. It is shown to the right. A C. A. Clark Scout Dwarf Deamon in Pink Pearl and EX brought $280.57. A rare Wilcox Wiggler that was only good condition, yellow/red back, still brought $785. An age hardened Jamison Hastings Rubber Frog that was G in a G box brought $905. A Pequea Harkauf 5 hook minnow that was VG in a G wooden box, green back color, sold for $850. An Emmerson & Ruhren SW lure in a scale/spots coloration, and EX in an EX box sold for $832.

Heddon lures included an EX 9630 Punkinseed in Green Scale that sold for $547. A 300 Surface Minnow in VG condition and rainbow color reached $270. A Sonic in Sunfish and VG sold for $153. An Artistic Minnow, with external weight, gold color and EX in a VG box with papers topped out at $1251.56.

A Pflueger Mustang in an unusual red squid scale and EX in an EX box sold for $255. A Shakespeare Metalized #03 Minnow in copper color reached $793.58. It was in VG condition.

A Creek Chub Surface Popper that was EX in a G box and white/red head sold for $587. A Husky Plunker 5807, VG+ in a VG box, and blue mullet color brought $251.38. A frog spot Beetle from Gordon Dill's tackle box in VG+ condition brought an astounding $3850.

Newer lures included some more of those Castaic wooden swim baits. A smallmouth bass EX in Box brought $142.50, while a largemouth reached $128.02. (did that smallmouth fight harder?). A salesman's display board of Whopper Stopper Hellbenders containing 31 colors and 3 sizes of lures and all VG brought $300.

Salmon Plugs of interest included a Nif-T Salmon Plug. This unusual lure has a backward hook as shown to the left. It was yellow and in EX and reached $243.51. A Clink that was EX in an EX unmarked box, White/Red head sold for $206.50.

 

Rods:

A Walton Powell bamboo "Companion" fly rod with two tips that made up into two different rods, 7'8" and 8'8" in EX brought $1554. An Orvis Battenkill, 8', 3/2 and VG+ sold for $865.01. a 7'6" Leonard 2/2 and EX only brought $575, while a Leonard M38, 7', 2/2 and EX sold for $1665. An LL Bean 7'6" fly rod by Phillipson, 2/2 and EX sold for $460.76. A Goodwin Granger Victory in 8', 3/2 and VG+ reached $535.03. A Payne light salmon 9' rod, 3/2 with extension butt and restored to EX sold for $1340. A Montague Red Wing 8'6", 3/2 and VG brought $281.87.

Fiberglass rods included a Browning/Silaflex 6'6", 2/1 light casting rod in Mint that sold for $336. A Fenwick steelhead spinning rod #FS83C in Mint, 8'3", 2/1, brought $142.50, while a Lunkerstik 2000, 6', 2/1 and EX reached $661. A Scott 7'6", 4 wt, 2/1 fly rod sold for $270.

A Winchester steel bait rod, 7', 4/1 in a VG bag sold for $172.49.

Miscellaneous Stuff:

An Evinrude advertising watch fob in VG- sold for $228.75. It is shown to the right. A 1945 Penn Yan boat catalog in VG sold for $102.50. A Fine Heddon Catalog from 1926 brought $465. An EX 1924 Pennsylvania fishing license button with paper license reached $360.50. A VF copy of Ernest Schwiebert's Salmon of the World in a limited edition of 750, signed and boxed sold for $611.

A British silk tapered fly line with the Kingfisher label and New in a good box brought $100, while another labeled Corona which was a double taper and new in a VG box ended at $129.49. A leather fly wallet full of gut leader flies, etc. in VG condition sold for $104.02. A ProBox wooden musky tackle box made of cedar and birch in EX brought $355.77.

A MacMonies leather trimmed creel with pocket and VG sold for $799. Another with a zipper lid and VG brought $635.

A fishing scene Miller High Life tin sign by John Kernan and VG sold for $300.02. A CCBC Pikie Minnow counter sign in good condition reached $497.52. A Beaver souvenir canoe paddle in EX brought $83.67. It was 15" long.

A c1946 Ocean City Mfg. Co. "Scout" children's fishing kit in a nice box, including a rod, reel, line, etc. brought $102.50.

A LeRoy Howell decoy with flowered decorations, 6.5" and EX made an even $1000. It is shown here. An EX Heddon 4 point fish decoy, perch color, in a poor box sold for $1058.99. A nice old Perch 7" decoy from northern Michigan and in VG sold for $785.
