eBay Report - November 2007

A couple of interesting lures were sold this month, which will certainly bring similar items up for auction - unless they are truly rare.

Lures:

A Pfeffer Bluegill created a bidding frenzy when it was listed. This lure was in EX condition, and eventually sold for $7310.99. It is shown to the right. Another rare item was a Carrie Stevens hand tied Grey Ghost Maine trolling fly that was EX on a VG card. It received 27 bids and sold for $427. An EX- Jacobs Polley fly rod Frog, y/black head brought $170.27.

Other miscellaneous maker lures included a Paw Paw Watta Frog in yellow splatter that was EX and sold for $167.50. A Spinno-Minno, red pastel/gold ribs and mint reached $199. A 4" Nichols Shrimp in VG brought $365.36. A tiny 1-1/8" long glass minnow(?) tube in VG topped out at $229.50. A Clark "dent eye" Water Scout, black/white head and EX in a tube with papers sold for $202.50. An unidentified green/orange minnow (looked Pepper to me) that was EX brought $718.55. Obviously several collectors knew what it was. An interesting Moonlight Chunk Bait #604, W/RH, and EX in an EX- box reached $350. An uncataloged Moonlight Spinnered Bait in Pearl and VG sold for $361.

Heddon items were common, as usual, and of interest we found a Spook Lucky 13, yellow with black coachdog spots, that received 49 bids. It was in EX condition and eventually sold for $426.89. A 7001 Muscallonge lure, missing its spinners and tail hook and with VG- rainbow paint, still climbed to $3150. A Heddon Spin Diver, yellow with L rig, and EX in a VG- down leap bass box sold for $9,200. A VG- yellow Lucky 13 with long lip and no eye topped out at $373. An EX Shrimpy Spook #9300 with R&Black spots sold for $200. A mouse flocked 200 Surface Minnow in EX brought $1525. An unidentified Dummy Double in old Perch and EX- sold for $1685.

An EX Shakespeare #44 5 hook minnow in Sienna crackleback sold for $278. A South Bend Whirl-Oreno in the usual red & white, but EX in a VG box with papers reached $449.44. A Pflueger Wizard 5 hook minnow, silver/green back and VG brought $214.71. A Pflueger trade lure made for Frankfurth Hardware called the Neptune Wooden Minnow, white and VG in a G box sold for $722.

A Creek Chub Bait Co. Dinger, black, and EX in a VG box sold for $306. A solid red #712 Pikie Minnow that was EX- brought $299.

Post WWII lures were very active, as usual, and were lead off by a Bagley Diving B in a green frog color. It is shown to the left. This lure brought an amazing $1525.02. It is shown to the left. As is usual this sale was followed up by another example. This one was new on card and reached an even more astounding $$2180.76. Undoubtedly we will see more of these in the future. Another Bagley Diving B in a very pretty blue-black color and EX sold for $323.76. A Bomber #242, orange/black spots that was mint in an EX box/papers reached $178.01. A Mermaid Queen, VG in box, sold for $115.38.

Metal lures included An uncommon nickel Speed Bait that received 22 bids and sold for $504.89. A Ketchum Frog Harness that was EX in an EX- box brought $256. An Arbogast Sunfish Tin Liz in EX reached $361.61.

Miscellaneous Fishing Stuff:

A hook pack lot, consisting of 23 of those triangular paper packs in VG-EX sold for $332.89. A Shakespeare bullet oiler in VG brought $101. A nifty looking bobber by McMillen of Oshkosh, WI reached $58.77. It is shown to the right. A Johnson toy outboard motor, 50 HP and VG, sold for $305. A Silver whiskey Flask with embossed fishermen in a boat and VG reached $290. A red color Leurre belt bait tin with gold stenciled fish and ID, in VG, sold for $77.89.

A 1950's Shakespeare Wonder Reel die cut sign, 17 x 16 inches and EX, sold for $433. A 1947 fish map of the US by Seagram's, 30 x 39" and G brought $154.50. A 1935 Heddon catalog in EX sold for $227.50, while a 1931 Heddon catalog in VG reached $218.50. A VG ABU Record Swedish catalog from 1949 brought $317. A very fine copy of Jim Brown's Fishing Reel Patents limited edition book fell under the radar and sold for $62.60.

An EX white Champion Featherweight rod handle sold for $255. A great photo album containing 71 picture that were mostly fishing in Canada and in VG sold for $435.

A Horrocks- Ibbotson Climax Fishing Kit, with rod, reel, and all needed tackle in Mint condition sold for $333. A Jim Heddon's Fishing Outfit, with 4' Jim Heddon Favorite rod, Chief Dowagiac reel, some boxed lures, etc in VG brought $760.

Reels:

Classic casting reels included a B.C. Milam #3, pre-1883 with 12:00 handle and EX, which received 22 bids before selling for $1358.  A J. A. Coxe (Bronson) Model 15 German silver level wind casting reel in EX topped out at $353.63. It is shown to the left. A Portage Cascade, 60 yard RP reel, Jeweled and EX brought $112.50. A William Shakespeare Jr Professional #3S in VG+ reached $262.57. An Ocean City Striker LW casting reel in EX brought $261.52.

November's fly reels included an 80 yd. Pflueger Golden West in VG that sold for $315.50, while an 80 yd. Pflueger Hawkeye in EX- brought $347.29. A McVickar Bushkill salmon fly reel in VG was bid to $208.50. A Montague Beaverkill 60 yarder in VG reached $128.59. A mint Bogdan Steelhead click-pawl reel drew a lot of questions and then sold for $2147.08.

Newer casting reels of interest included a Shimano Bantam Pro Mag 100X SG (sold by Bass Pro Shop) that was NIB brought $182.50. It was really interesting to note the interest in an ABU-Matic M155 in VG+ that sold for $255. That reel is shown to the right. An ABU/Record 1500A older (for ABU) LW reel with agate bearings and VG, that sold for $200. A Shakespeare President II that was EX in box/papers brought $137.50. A Bristol Electromatic LW casting reel in EX sold for $213.50.

A Go-Ite #170 Lake Trolling Reel, mint in an EX box/papers, sold for $224.50. An Ohio Meisselbach Surf #50, mint in a VG box/booklet sold for $368.63.

Rods:

Bamboo fly rods included A Wright & McGill Granger Victory, 9', 3/2, and mint that sold for $280. A Cross/South Bend single built 7'6" M1500 in VG reached $385. A Leonard 37H, 6'6", 2/3 and EX brought $1777.76.  A rare c1932 Heddon Biltwell #1, 9', 3/2 and EX sold for $416.

A Fenwick glass UL spinning rod, FS55, in EX sold for $156.99. A Shimano Speedmaster Fightin' Rod flipping stick in EX reached $260 and a Magnumlite 6'6" MH brought $217.50. A new in sleeve/papers Phillipson/3M Bass Tamer Model EC60L (6' light action) received 22 bids and sold for $1375.30.  

And finally we close with an Edward Vom Hofe/Abercrombie & Fitch 81" big game rod in VG condition that brought $482.88.
