Some really neat stuff came up for auction this month.
Lures:
Some nice lures by smaller manufacturers included a white Outing
Dewey's Feather Getum which was EX- in an EX- box that soared to $856.
Bringing out the big guns
was a Diamond Brand
(Shapleigh Hardware) "The Diamond Submarine" that was EX in an EX box
- take a look to the right. It sold for $3845. A bunch of
Nichol's Shrimp baits appeared this month. An EX one in yellow/black
stripes brought $482; An EX pearl colored one reached $664.32; while a
red & green EX example sold for $676. A Florida Superstrike Shrimp in
EX- reached $553.21. A Lockhart Wagtail, white/red trim that was mint
in a VG box sold for $1591.88.
There were lots of nice Creek Chub Bait Company lures offered this
month. An Open Mouth Shiner #500, silver flash?, in EX sold for $910.
A CCBC redside color collection was sold this month. Included was an
EX- #1805 5 hook minnow in redside color reached $636, while a 3 hook
minnow in the same color and VG, topped out at $481. A Jigger in
redside and EX brought $1034. A #100 Wiggler in redside that was EX in
a VG intro box/papers sold for $841. Another #100 in chub color that
was EX- in a VG- intro box reached $416.99; while one in golden shiner
that was EX in a VG- box brought $511. A #1402 Bug Wiggler, red &
white, that was EX in a G box with no papers sold for $709. A #7437
yellow flash colored Surfster, Mint in an EX box, reached $656.66. A
CCBC item that looked like a steal was a 6 pack lure box that
contained several newer lure boxes and an Al Foss tin box, all empty,
but in VG. The combination brought $300.
It's always fun to
note when a clueless seller puts up a really nice item and then follow
the vultures trying to get the lure without an auction. A Shakespeare
Musky Minnow in EX condition appeared this month. The seller had no
idea what he had, but allowed the auction to run. 38 bidders drove
this very nice perch color lure up to $5782.86. It is shown to the
left.
A VG Heddon frogscale Near Surface Wiggler sold for $486. A red &
white Luny Frog in EX- brought $260. A classic yellow/gold spots
Pflueger Globe #3750, EX in an EX canoe box topped out at $153.50.
A Paw Paw #3707 Caster series bait, pike scale color and Mint in an
EX box reached $281. A Rosegard salmon plug in pink pearl and Mint in
an EX box sold for $510. Metal baits included a J. T. Buel spinner
with 1852 patent and VG sold for $939.99. A wild colored Bagley DB2 -
yellow with red & black spots, that was in EX condition sold for
$795.76.
Reels:
Fly reels were lead by a classic Bogdan salmon reel Model 150,
3-1/2" x 1-3/8", and
Mint
condition, sold for $2425. An antique Meisselbach small Amateur
sidemount, rare with click and in EX condition, sold for $306.02. It
is pictured to the right. A Heddon Imperial #125 in EX brought
$129.59. A more recent Pflueger Supreme fly reel #577 that was EX in
vinyl case/screw driver sold for $132.50. A Yawman & Erbe
aluminum automatic Style B by Horrocks-Ibbotson that was EX in an EX
box brought $153.70.
A Lenz Machine Works salmon mooching reel in VG sold for $401. A
Benson ABL Indiana style reel in EX brought $202.25. An Allcock
starback wood and brass 6" Nottingham style reel in EX sold for
$228.50. A 6 inch diameter Hardy Fortuna in EX reached $837.87.
Antique casting
reels included a Meisselbach free spool Takapart #481 that was EX in
box/papers and sold for $228.05. A 3½ size
Julius Vom Hofe black bass reel of German silver and hard rubber in EX
brought $365. An unusual Bronson six pack dealer display that included
two reels (Fleetwing and Veteran) that was in VG condition reached
only $94. I thought it was neat, so it is shown to the left. I was
rather blown away to see a Pflueger Summit #1993 that was EX in a G
condition box sell for $550. There were 43 bids by 3 bidders that had
33 buys between them. Either someone shill bid, or those guys need to
learn some patience. Another will come up fairly soon and will sell
for about 10% of that price. A Shakespeare 1910 Vom Hofe reel, hard
rubber and nickel plated brass, reached $405. A Heddon 4-15
"windshield wiper" reel in VG sold for $898.88.
A Daiwa Procaster PT10E Micro Computerized casting reel from
the late 1980s that was mint in an EX box with papers sold for $256. A
Shakespeare 1976 Bicentennial casting reel in red, white & blue and EX
sold for $160.50. A Sears Ted Williams Triple Crown baitcasting reel
in EX brought $91.50.
Miscellaneous Fishing Stuff:
Attracting a lot of
interest and finally settling at $4550 was a carved salmon attributed
to Oscar Peterson. It was in VG condition, 29" long and c1930's. You
can see it to the right. A Fred Max Lexow 5.75" fish decoy, cream/red
trim and VG reached $255.
A Field & Stream grayling honor badge in EX sold for $61. Another
F&S badge, silver for a 20 pound Permit, reached $162.49. A brass and
steel spring fish trap, 3-1/8" long and EX condition brought $715.80.
An UMCO Possum Belly #4500 tackle box in a rare brown color and EX-
sold for $175.
The Pflueger Nibalo
Float Assortment #2450 shown to the left was a really neat item for a
Pflueger display. It was in EX condition and brought $357.05. A
Shakespeare wire dealer display rack with good graphics and VG sold
for $256.51.
A 1942 Millsite catalog, VG in its mailer, sold for $61. A 1949
Heddon dealer catalog with foldout window poster in EX sold for
$147.50. A fine copy in dust jacket of Steve Vernon's
Antique Fishing Reels
brought $53. A 1st Edition signed copy of Martin Keane's
Classic Rods and Rodmakers in VG/VG sold for $256. A F/F copy of
Mary Kelly's U.S. Fishing Rod Patents & Others, limited to 750 copies,
brought $190.50. A copy of Louis Rhead's The Basses, Freshwater and
Marine, c1905, in VG/VG sold for $97.87.
Rods:
Bamboo fly rods of interest this month included a Wright & McGill
Granger Victory #7030, 7', 2/2 and EX, for $666. A German 9' 6", 3/2
rod by Wirmain Stork, that was EX in an interesting oak case sold for
$310. A South Bend #290, 7' 6", 2/2 and VG brought $255, while a week
later one in EX sold for $177. Patience is a virtue. An Orvis
Wes Jordan 7' 6", 2/2 for a 6 wt and EX brought $995. A classic E. F.
Payne 8', 3/2 and EX condition rod reached $2951.10. An antique Chubb
8' 6", 3/2 and VG in form case sold for $200. A Heddon #135, 7' 6",
3/2 and Mint brought $1225.
Fiberglass rods included a Grizzly 7' 6" fly rod, 2/1, for a 6 wt
line, new in tube which sold for $171.38. A Fenwick fiberglass big
game rod model 209357, 5' 5", 8/0 size and EX brought $150.
Not a rod, but a fly vise by noted rodmaker Paul Young in VG
condition sold for $159.48.
